Hi my name is Uddhava and I'm fundraising for a friend and family member, Theresa. She is an 85 years old widow who lives in Poland, where she was born and raised. Theresa served her community as a teacher for high school and special needs students.
This last month of September, Theresa’s home of 62 years was blown up in a gas leak explosion from the apartment next door. The small and modest 2-bedroom apartment that she owned was completely destroyed and is uninhabitable from the blast and subsequent fire. Not only did Theresa lose her whole life's personal possessions and memorabilia, there is no insurance or savings to collect from. She lives on a very small teacher’s pension and this home was her only retirement security. As you can imagine, this is a devastating loss.
Fortunately, at the time of the explosion Theresa was laying down in the back bedroom and survived, but the blast caused some hearing loss damage. At her advanced age, she is now completely alone and dependent on the mercy and kindness of others. Any funds collected will go toward repairing her apartment and providing some basic care to help Theresa maintain her independence. She uses a walker to get around so funds will provide things such as hot meal delivery and pay for someone to check in on her and assist with tasks that have become too much for her to accomplish alone.
