Goúd? 👁 wanna c it👍🏾🔥🌿. Thx u🙌🏿😤💀♎... us open tenis tickets (7) She's missing dvd. She's missing an arm. Long post I’m sorry:( kinda brief important backstory: I live in an apartment complex directly outside of the largest college campus in the US, so it’s 99% students. Cost of living isn’t cheap, but convenient for students who walk to class, so most people who aren’t students choose to live in better areas further away, as for the quality of our apartment it’s truly a waste of money. We’ve lived here a couple years now and have had awesome neighbors and no complaints of noise. I have an upper and lower neighbor and can barely hear the upstairs neighbor ever, and I know they party in their apartment. This mother moved in with her three kids a couple months ago and have been nothing but trouble for everyone around them in the complex, specifically my boyfriend and I, because we live right above her. We both work full time and are students and rarely have company over, but if we do there’s maybe 1-2 people. The weekend she moved in we had ONE friend over, weren’t watching TV, weren’t drinking- and were just chilling on the couch chatting at a totally reasonable sober volume. I haven’t met her at this point, and she spent nearly an hour banging on her ceiling continuously. Eventually my bf went downstairs to ask if everything was okay and she ripped him a new one. Her kids bedtime is at 8 PM, we shouldn’t be talking and laughing this late, etc. Whatever, we just assumed we were louder than we thought and tried to quiet down. 20 mins passed and she was banging on the ceiling again. I know we were talking normally and I know the walls aren’t that thin. We decided to just go out to the bar to hang because this lady was obviously stressed and it wasn’t worth it. Fast forward a couple days, my boyfriend had to work at 5 am. He gets up at 4 and gets in the shower. She started banging on the ceiling AGAIN. It was enough to wake me up. Like most, I don’t want to be woken up at 4 am and after banging on the ceiling for 5 mins straight, I go down there and ask her what’s wrong. She said my boyfriend turning on the shower woke up her entire family. I apologized and said that he has to work soon and that’s something that will happen frequently, and that while I can hear the water in other apartments as well, it’s so subtle that it’s barely noticeable. She started to go off about how they had to wake up for school soon and just moved from an “actual detached home” (she said that in a super yikes tone) and that her family isn’t used to hearing other people shower, so we had to do our showering before 7 PM each night or she would email our landlord. I mentioned that our classes/jobs usually go way past that, but realized it was a lost cause when she obviously didn’t give a sh*t. Anyways, BS like this continued. I would see her and her kids walking in the hall and would smile and say hello at her and the kids and she would literally shield them from me and run away. Not that it matters, but I’m a 22 year old girl with a fricken lame ass backpack who just seems like any other normal person. Nothing to be shielded from. Anyways, sorry for the length, but here’s the kicker. I was woken up last week from more bangs on the ceiling. It was 3 am and I tried so damn hard to just go back to sleep, because we were sleeping obviously- no TV on or anything. The knocking continued and I actually got nervous that she needed help or something. I woke my boyfriend up (a deep sleeper) and said I was worried and he said he’s done checking on her (for multiple multiple reasons lol) and to just go back to sleep. I couldn’t sleep and thought since we weren’t making noise, maybe she needed help. I went down there and knocked on the door. She opened it and I swear to everything, blurted out “you WENCH. ” Literally you WENCH. I was obviously appalled, not even because I was half asleep, and just sheepishly asked if she was okay or needed something. She said snoring has kept her and her children up all night. I kid you not, I watched her go to her couch (it was in perfect view of the front door) and grab a sleeping baby/toddler off of it and scream “HES BEEN UP FOR HOURS BECAUSE SOMEBODY IN YOUR APARTMENT WONT STOP SNORING”. The baby definitely looked like it was very asleep when she grabbed him and I just went off. I don’t know exactly what I said, but it was basically about how she’s crazy for expecting other people to not be human and make human noises when she moves into an apartment. I don’t like confrontation, so my version of “going off” was more like nervously saying it how it is. She then told me to come in to listen to my boyfriend snore, and I stepped in a tiny bit and didn’t hear sh*t. Like I said, I’m a light sleeper, my boyfriend breathes heavily but it no way does he really snore. I couldn’t hear a damn thing from her apartment. I told her that and she got mad, told me to step in her bedroom and sit on the bed (??! ) and that I could hear it much better. I obviously refused and left. The next day, my car was entirely buried in snow. I’m from out of state and mentioned that to her before, so she knew me from my license plate. I tried to shrug it off (even though it was obviously intentional due to the amount of snowfall and what was on my car, not to mention the shovel cleared parking lot all directed towards my car and her being the only neighbor who has “beef”) and called my job to tell them I’d be late, as I kid you not, my car was LITERALLY under a mound. Two days later, it happened again. I was so frustrated that I took all the snow from my car and put it into a pile, then after class/work at night completely buried her car. She has since contacted the landlord apparently and won’t stop banging on my ceiling AGAIN ALL NIGHT. Like it’s almost like she doesn’t sleep. She told my neighbor (who also knows shes wack and has lived here as long as we have) and he told me that she said I made her kids miss school and the district is so mad that I need to contact them to explain the situation? This happened two days ago and I woke up to a handwritten note today under my door saying she has photos and will be filing a police report for vandalism and if her kids get in trouble for missing school I will be at fault. I’m so non-confrontational and pissed off that I just want to ignore her but she’s getting way too crazy. Edit: A couple of people have mentioned reporting her to our landlord, which we haven’t formally done. Our landlord is super cool with us and is hands down the best landlord ever, but we casually mentioned it before it started to get out of hand. I’m not too worried about her effecting our landlords opinion of us thankfully, but I’m definitely considering filing a formal written complaint with him. Sucks because she has 3 little absolutely adorable kids and I’m not trying to get them thrown out.

She& 39;s missing movie plot. Level 1 7 points · 2 days ago · edited 2 days ago Something that didn't really fit into our episode guide or bonus that I thought was important was the Shinobu interview. It's deliberately interjected as the "girls only" moment in an episode focused on the Meijin match, so it's especially important to listen to Shinobu's words and understand Chihaya's reaction (which may have also been confusing). Shinobu reveals that her past interviews were just platitudes for PR purposes and that this year, she's actually being honest when she says that she's thankful for those that support her. Chihaya recognizes this as words of thanks for her help (the Daddy Bear tasuki) and Shinobu echoes her promise to play again in the Queen match. Previously in the dumps and angsting over Suou, Chihaya suddenly brightens. At first, it makes sense that Chihaya is happy because of her rival's recognition, but why is she able to move past her hatred of Suou and the negative aura surrounding her? Let's look back at what Suou said to her in S3E15: You're very interesting. You're pretty, positive, and you never lose heart. You have friends, and even a boyfriend. And you want to be Queen, too? You can't. Up until now, Chihaya has been the character that literally represents passion (Chihayaburu) and it is that desire to love and be loved that brings her friendship and success as an individual and with the Mizusawa karuta club. So, Suou isn't just telling Chihaya that she can't be Queen -- he's rejecting everything about her. And this is exactly what Chihaya hates: she doesn't want karuta to be a place where people take advantage of other people's passion like Suou or are isolated like Shinobu. So when Shinobu ends her interview by (secretly) inviting Chihaya to play karuta with her in the next Queen match, Chihaya is moved and able to move past what Suou said. Not only is she reaffirmed as a rival, but Chihaya is recognized by Shinobu as someone that she is thankful for. Her passion reached Shinobu and was able to make a meaningful bond between the two -- and one that allows Shinobu to break past her usual cold isolation, humbly thanking Haruka and those involved in this year's event. With a Japanese title of "If you want to live up to your name" or "If you are worthy of your name", it only seems fitting that Chihaya lives up to her identity: Chihayaburu, her namesake Poem 17 card. level 1 The guilt business is kind of interesting, since it could be framed in a completely different light if approached from a different perspective. As important as the whole community theme has been for the entirety of the story, in both an all-encompassing sense and the more tribal/allegiances aspect mentioned, the fundamental reality of a karuta match still boils down to just 3 things - you, your opponent and the reader - as Harada himself stated. So the importance both Chihaya and Taichi placed on 'their part' in Harada's loss, you could say almost smacks of narcissism. Obviously being two of the primary protagonists mean it's narratively natural to approach events as though they have some sort of implicit agency over them, but it's still funny to look at it this way, because this isn't the first time this season we've seen both of them 'cross the line' when it comes to being selfish. despite the two of them being part of his society, it's the arrival of Arata, the person who had broken off from the Shiranami Society to return to f*ckui, and who had lost to Dr. Harada in the finals to begin with, that spurs the other two with their flagging allegiances to run off to see how Dr. Harada was doing! Arata being the catalyst here is perhaps also a callback to the implications of what Chihaya said to him after the 1st round of the Challengers' Final. Although he was only there for a few months, Arata nevertheless did place enough importance on his time at the Shiranami Society that it remains a "core memory", to borrow a phrase from Inside Out. Still a bit disappointed neither Haruka nor Harada won after all that, but I suppose the pep talk from Yamashiro Kyouko did imply Haruka probably won't disappear as a competitor. Manga question for /u/ABoredCompSciStudent: Were the nico comments directorial license, or actually canon and in the manga itself? Oh, and I was actually already spoiled about Suo's stay of retirement a few weeks back, although I noped right out of there before the end of the sentence, so avoided any context/details behind the decision. level 2 6 points · 1 day ago Manga question for /u/ABoredCompSciStudent: Were the nico comments directorial license, or actually canon and in the manga itself? Do you mean explicitly translating/naming them as niconico? In the manga, Arata and Yukiko are definitely watching the matches via a web broadcast with niconico style comments (the floating ones), but I think they're just referred to as a web stream/broadcast in the English scanlation. So yeah, it's definitely her writing/art if that's what you mean -- the anime is almost always faithful. This isn't really a major manga spoiler so,. Oh, and I was actually already spoiled about Suo's stay of retirement a few weeks back, although I noped right out of there before the end of the sentence, so avoided any context/details behind the decision. Shoo, manga readers! Stay away from manga readers, they're a dangerous bunch. level 2 Original Poster 4 points · 1 day ago Obviously being two of the primary protagonists mean it's narratively natural to approach events as though they have some sort of implicit agency over them, but it's still funny to look at it this way, because this isn't the first time this season we've seen both of them 'cross the line' when it comes to being selfish. Yeah, the guilt thing was just my personal interpretation of the little events that I saw, and the realization that many of the characters might actually be working with incomplete information. That extension to narcissism is interesting and would even sort of help explain why they stood outside Harada's room, questioning Harada's spirit and wondering if Suou would be lazy again in Game 5, which was a very jarring and out-of-place scene for me (around the 12 minute mark or so). Then again I don't really blame them in a meta sense, since vast parts of the season were dedicated to other characters besides them! Although he was only there for a few months, Arata nevertheless did place enough importance on his time at the Shiranami Society that it remains a "core memory", to borrow a phrase from Inside Out. Yeah. Although I gather this is still some ways off, if ever even going to be covered, but Arata coming to a college in Tokyo would mean that he would probably be leaving the f*ckui Nagumo Society, and so coming back to the Shiranami Society would definitely be an option in his future (together with or after whichever University karuta club he joins), especially since Chihaya and Taichi are there too. And if he's already thought ahead and realized this, then both his past and future have important tie-ins to the Shiranami Society. Me too. I was so dissatisfied I had to step away from the show for a couple days. :P level 1 Shinobu rescues Chihaya by thanking her indirectly for the tasuki during the interview. Set against a painting of two white herons, a symbol for longevity Ohh, Shinobu and longevity is bad news for Chihaya. And this puts his actions in a bit of context, and why he is trying to live up to his name in wanting to fulfil his own dream, since a young Arata and his grandfather watched Suou's first victory together on television. Just like Suou is trying to fulfil Yukiko's request to make something of himself, Arata has words from Hajime (S3E8 09:13) driving him forward as well. I don't have much to say on this episode, but I'm glad to find out more about this. I remember when they had a flashback in S3 about Suou's first match and Hajime specially mentioned that Suou's going to be the one at the throne when he'll challenge it. So there was two quest for Arata, first to become Meijin, and the second to do it by defeating Suou in particular. I did think that Arata lost his chance to fulfil half of the quest when he lost to Harada, but I'm glad that he's getting one more year to beat him, and I daresay Harada showing that he is beatable could be his way of passing the torch to the next generation (Arata or Taichi) to defeat him because he himself couldn't do it. Still find it weird how Hajime knew that some random dude on the television would remain undefeated. Makes me wonder if there's some deeper meaning to him being called 'karuta god' at least by Arata, just like Chihaya declaring Arata as her own 'karuta god', and how Taichi brought sweets to please his 'karuta god' (Suou). Therefore, this conflict causes him to sacrifice his own pride in order to further push himself up the mountain that is Class A karuta, walking away from the light representing his teammates with his classic eyeless/shaded eyes guilty look, toward a different sort of light, one that we might have seen before recently. Taichi hype!!! I wonder what he'll make of the information he gained, and if he'll be able to win the individual tournament or not. I did believe that someone might catch Chihaya's awe again towards the end of the season (like Suou in S1 and Arata in S2) and it could be Taichi in this season. level 2 Original Poster 3 points · 1 day ago Ohh, Shinobu and longevity is bad news for Chihaya. Two of them though, so.. perhaps one for each of the two players since Shinobu was reaching out for Chihaya there. :) I did think that Arata lost his chance to fulfil half of the quest when he lost to Harada, but I'm glad that he's getting one more year to beat him, and I daresay Harada showing that he is beatable could be his way of passing the torch to the next generation (Arata or Taichi) to defeat him because he himself couldn't do it. Yeah, me too, and completely agree on both halves of this statement. Although not if Taichi has anything to say about it! I get the feeling both Arata and Taichi will get their chances to shine still, though. Hajime also had a scene where he himself talked about karuta gods back in S1 somewhere, when talking to a young Arata, and how they would tell him what the next card was going to be (I think). Sounds awfully like what happened with Suou last episode on him taking the #22 card before it was read. It might just be that Suou was so dominating in the match that Hajime could sense that he would be extremely difficult to beat, sort of like how Suou sensed that Arata would not win this year, that Harada would be fun to play against, and that Taichi was going to be trouble because he didn't fault at all when playing Suou, maybe. Ooh I wonder if Suou and Shinobu will both take part in this upcoming tourney now. This is where Retro takes over the show... We'll see though! If Shinobu and Suou and even Harada and Haruka play too, there might be a lot of really interesting unorthodox matchups that take place in this tournament (depending on the exact format)!

I am fascinated by champion design and am excited to learn about what champions didn't become as much as what they did, not because I believe that their initial designs were better, but there's just so much damn creativity and awesome ideas that I believe should've been allowed to exist to some degree in a better world. I don't have trivia on every single champion because Riot doesn't publicly disclose every idea they tried out (they "icebox"/"put on hold" rather than outright cancel, as some ideas may be revisited in the future, so they like to keep their better ideas under wraps), but here's a list of some of my favorite ideas from the champions Riot has spoken up about. (note: these might be common knowledge to some, but I felt like making this post on the offchance you don't because chances are that nobody's aware of all of these. If you do, congrats! ) AATROX: For his 2018 VGU, a few abilities were tested: One version of his ultimate would have created a "war zone" that would reduce the death timers of both allies and enemies who died in it. It was a crazy "fiesta zone", but it caused too many balance problems. He had another ability to offer the chance for allies to become Darkin -- Aatrox would drop his sword for someone to pick up, and they'd pay a "Blood Price" for it for bonus stats and a revive with Aatrox's R. AHRI: From Riot's ORIGINS post: An early version of Ahri had no fox ears and her nine tails were really just suggestions from the shape of her dress. They thought it was too lame, and so they focused on making her a proper foxgirl instead of an "artificially unique one". An early version of her ultimate had her dash infinitely over time, basically turning herself into an Ezreal ult. Senior game designer Colt "Ezreal" Hallam claimed "We had to change this ultimate due to its interactions with the Dominion map, which is easily one of my biggest regrets on the character. " AKALI: For her 2018 VGU, they considered letting her "ride" projectiles from other champions (say, a Jinx rocket), but it was too impractical and annoying to work with. They also made it so her smoke bomb created a dragon-shaped billow in the center ( which was shown in her rework's teaser image), but it was cut for clarity. APHELIOS: From Riot's Champ Insights post: They originally wanted to make him a mage, specifically "a classic wizard archetype" with many potential combo-attacks (Invoker, anyone? ), but in practice he was functionally identical to other mages in playstyle. They came up with the "gunswap marksman" idea first, champion identity second, and explored a bunch. My personal favorite is "Braum’s mean older brother, who carried a totem pole that channeled Freljordian animal spirits to swap abilities, " who was specifically cut because his design implied he was tanky. CertainlyT originally suggested Aphelios carry as much as 25 guns, and also suggested that his power be based off the stage of the real life moon. Ngl, I hope he wasn't joking, godspeed AURELION SOL: As some of you might know, ASol was originally planned to be a different champ: a long, serpentine storm dragon named Ao Shin. He was reworked because Riot had a lot of trouble with the technical aspects of the idea -- He was apparently "10-12 Teemos in length" and they wanted him to be able to wrap his body around enemies, but this made it hard for him to hide in bushes, and it consumed a ton of his power budget (he needed to be fast enough to move around enemies and tanky enough to survive them fighting back). AZIR: Lotttttt of stuff from his ORIGINS post, too much to include here. the tl;dr version was that he was envisioned as a sand mage named Seth since 2013-14, and was reworked countless times due to technical and creative issues. BARD: Originally for his passive, Riot gave him the ability to go through several different color versions of Meeps that would boost his abilities, and they would all continuously follow behind him like Pikmin. Testing made them prefer simpler upgrades to basic attacks over his abilities, resulting in his passive's current state. DIANA: Yknow how that recent rework where they made her Moonfall (circle-surrounding ability) her ultimate? It turns out this was (kind of) the original plan when she was first made: it was a channeled AoE that dealt true damage based off a resource called "Scorn", but was replaced for being "toxic and nearly impossible to counter. " EKKO: They wanted to make his ultimate be able to properly rewind enemies along with him, but no matter what they tried, it was considered too busted and confusing. Also, they were developing Bard alongside him, and during a phase in playtesting, Bard had an ultimate where he would globally silence enemies, making games with both of them being globally annoyed no matter what. EVELYNN: From her Champ Insights revolving her 2017 VGU, Riot originally wanted to make her scarier and demonic, with "spider legs, cracked porcelain skin with shadows pushing their way out, the cavity of a missing eye you could peer into and see three eyes within. " They thought it was too much. GALIO: One idea for a passive in his 2017 VGU was the ability to roost on top of turrets (or the remains of one), allowing him to cast spells at an increased range. When he jumped off, he could also chain it into his ultimate. GANGPLANK: One tested idea for his 2015 VGU was an ultimate nicknamed "Pirate Gundam", summoning a giant, tanky unit that would either fire cannonballs or do a nerfed version of Malphite's ult. It didn't work out since it felt too powerful and required a ton of additional focus in visuals to implement it in game. GNAR: Originally, Mega Gnar's ult had him swallow a unit whole, and was directly said to have inspired Tahm Kench's entire "devour" mechanic. This is a case of a good idea being reused for later -- the ability tested well, but they preferred it be the core mechanic to a new champion than tacked onto someone as uncontrollable as Gnar. JHIN: From his Champ Insights, Jhin was originally envisioned as a "mysterious robot cowboy bounty hunting sniper" codenamed Deadeye. His design was fragmented, but while Jhin became a new psycho artist gunman, the design inspired his High Noon skin. JINX: From her ORIGINS post: Originally they wanted her to be "a weapon-swapping ADC, like a ranged Udyr" (or a primordial Aphelios, lol) where her abilities just switched to a different gun for her basic attacks. Riot found this pattern pretty boring after a while, so all she has left of the gunswap is her Q. They tested out a bunch of different ultimates. My favorite is "Circle of Cats", fired a bomb across the map that surrounded the first enemy hit with magic smoke, causing enemies who crossed it to turn into harmless kittens, but it's just not as direct as making them explode outright. KAI'SA: She was always meant to be a marksman, but went through different ideas in ideation. Concepts included an ex-Purifier (Lucian's faction), a Vampire hunter that became a vampire, a Zaunite life-essence-drainer, and even an idea that she was part of a new breed of void monster trying to imitate humans. KAYN: Originally they wanted Kayn to be Xayah and Rakan's nemesis (and was codenamed during development as "Nemesis"), but they decided to cut this because his relationship with Zed and conflict with Rhaast was more interesting. MISS FORTUNE: Riot toyed with giving her a new voiceover around 2018 (around the same time they recorded the voiceover for her Gun Goddess skin), but it was scrapped after they tested some lines out and internal feedback was mixed; nobody could really agree on what they were looking for from her characterization, and they concluded that changing it was a worse decision than leaving it be. MORDEKAISER: Lots of really cool ideas were thrown around for his 2019 VGU: They toyed with giving Mordekaiser more interactions in dialogue, but most were cut because they didn't want to make him "chatty or conversational". One cut line was a first encounter line for Kled where he asks "What is... a taco? " One early idea was that his armor was meant to be based off the Immortal Bastion (formerly his giant fortress in Noxus), and so he looked architectural. Sooooo many scrapped abilities, including ones that interacted with the Death Realm. Favorites include a passive that automatically enslaved the souls of enemies he killed, and a circular missile that sent enemies it passed over into the Death Realm. MORGANA: For her dual VGU with Kayle, they tested some new abilities on her just to see if there was anything worth changing. One significant ability was making her ult have tiers like with Kayle, with each rank giving her new stats, but the only one that stuck was giving her bonus movement speed. NUNU and WILLUMP: One early story pitch for their 2018 VGU was that they were part of a traveling circus who secretly stole artifacts from Lissandra. The Frostguard found out and slaughtered their tribe, but Nunu managed to steal a true ice artifact that gave them snowball-making powers. One of their tested abilities was having Nunu toss out a climbing rope to lasso an enemy, which prevented them from moving beyond the two's radius. It sounds like it had potential, but only that. ORNN: From his development post, Ornn was in the works since around 2013, so he went through a lot of different design ideas (too many to list here), some of which influenced other champions like the 2014 VGU of Sion. One version of his ultimate was "Murderhenge", where he summoned a giant volcano that erupted boulders across the area, and if Ornn charged into one of the boulders, they'd explode and damage enemies. It was "Fun as hell but way too random and noisy. " An idea for his passive that he could forge his own weapons to affect his basic attacks for a while, like an extra hammer for AoE, a blade for piercing damage, and an axe for CC. PYKE: Pyke was planned to be an "assassin support" from day one, and went through a bunch of ability experimentation. My favorite was a "kidnap spell" where he'd mark his current position, then could dash forward, and if he collided with a champion, he'd yank them both back to the starting point. While coming up with identities for a "dark assassin support", one of the ideas was making him a Shuriman sand wraith (influencing his Sand Wraith skin), and an undead yordle from the Shadow Isles (HEY RIOT, WHAT THE f*ck, I HOPE YOU REUSE THIS) QIYANA: Originally, Riot wanted Ixtal to be a faction from a completely new continent away from Runeterra, and Qiyana was supposed to be from a race of metal people (or an "alloy girl"), but they simply didn't have the time or bandwidth to accomplish this. She was supposed to be able to use fire in her kit, but there isn't enough fire in any map to gain it from. Also, her ult was supposed to explode the ENTIRE river. QUINN: She was originally envisioned as a "two-handed sword assassin", but then someone asked "Why not ranged? " and her design changed. An early version of her passive had Valor find any enemy below 30% max HP and suppress them for "some obscene amount of time". Her full title is supposed to be "Quinn and Valor", but due to client tech issues, she could only be referred to as simply "Quinn" once she left PBE. (given Nunu and Willump years later, this is probably no longer an issue. Any time, Riot! ) RAKAN and XAYAH: The two were conceived as a "botlane duo", so different ways they could do duo mechanics were tested: One idea was for them to be "a Storm Shaman and a Storm Elemental", where one could summon a lightning cloud to shock enemies and another with a gust of wind to blow it into place. They also tested giving them each a Vel'Koz beam that could combine into a single crazy "megabeam". Another idea was that the two would be vampires and would operate by a day/night cycle (hi, Dota 2) that made them more powerful at night, but it was considered "one too many layers" since they already had the duo mechanics. The two originally had a mechanic where if one of them died, they could still attach themselves to the other and continue fighting, which became the basis for Yuumi's kit. Xayah had a vast amount of work done on her for her kit -- one of her ults eventually became Kai'Sa's, one ability was basically Ahri's W but with only one projectile, one passive granted her up to 10 stacks of bonus damage from using basic attacks (which was "1v9"-levels of busted), and a mechanic kinda like Fiora's passive where she could target a side of a target for bonus damage, which got narrower but more powerful the more it was hit. RAMMUS: The reason Rammus is so quiet is because when Riot (very early on in the game's life, to remind you) did try to give him a proper voiceover, but it sucked and they recorded a new one in 15 minutes. The rest is history! RIVEN: From her ORIGINS post, Riven went through a lot of kit experimentation, especially with her ultimate. The descriptions of what they tried with her are much funnier than anything I can relay. RYZE: Not exactly to do with the champion himself, but for his "Call to Power" short, there exists an unused model of a Zaunite assassin and concept art of him with a little girl (who I believe is Daisy from Annie's short? ) SHACO: Sometime around 2017, they tested giving him a rework. One of the tested abilities was an ultimate where he turned himself into a missle that fired in a direction. When he collided with Yasuo's Wind Wall, he never came back. "The entire design team stood up and gave the Yasuo player a standing ovation. " SYLAS: He was envisioned as a "copycat" champion since the beginning, but went through different ideas: One idea was that he was this Houdini-esque magic escape artist who let Demacia capture him just to prove he could escape... but then ended up trapped for 20 years because of their petricite. Smooth. They originally tried making him more of a mage -- his original Q eventually became Neeko's Q, and he had a "prison break" move that let him cleanse CC, but it didn't work out. They changed him into a brawler because they found it was more versatile to use enemy ultimates around. TALIYAH: From her Champ Insights: Originally they wanted Taliyah's abilities to be much more destructive, with an ultimate that could outright remove any natural terrain. This was cut because nobody really knew how to make this look right, and the ability felt more a support champ than a self-reliant mage. One idea to go along with her "weaver" concept was to give her a "spool" that could gather up rocks that she could fire back onto her enemies. This implied that she had abilities that she could charge up, but she eventually ended up with none. URGOT: A few, kind of wacky ideas were tested for his 2017 VGU: Riot initially toyed with Urgot being a waaaaaay more theatrical, Batman-style villain (think Joker or Penguin) where he'd toy with his enemies with deranged playfulness before killing them. His taunt was a full minute long, and his ultimate had him pull out a pipe organ to play a song and give an evil monologue as he dragged his enemies to death -- the only reason this seems to have been cut is because gameplay is too fast for it. (ngl, I want this REALLY BAD) One scrapped ability had him fire a cluster bomb that created a minefield which feared enemies. "Unfair" doesn't begin to describe it. VI: One early stab at her "Piltover Enforcer" idea was that she was a steampunk capoeira fighter with dreads and robot legs. It apparently sounds cooler than it actually looked. WARWICK: One idea for his 2017 VGU was to be able to turn other allies into werewolves, allowing them to roam around the map as a wolf pack. Not exactly "Warwick", but very cool. YORICK: One ability was tried out for his 2016 VGU where could resurrect allies, with one version of them exploding like Kog'Maw. It was cut because 1) there wasn't a way to make it fun, and 2) this meant Yorick's power relied on his team dying. YUUMI: Her passive was "very close" to being named "Protecc/Attacc"/ Few different cool abilities were tested,, including one ultimate that involved diving onto an enemy and pushing them an unlimited distance away from the fight (which sounds like Stukov's shoving ult from HOTS). CANCELLED CHAMPIONS: OMEN was a very early champ that looked like a spiky quadruped demon thing. He had a kit, but it was super confused and unfocused, and nobody was sure if he was meant to be melee or not. KOMACHI was once supposed to be a female, Grim Reaper-style, scythe-wielding tank who was being designed, but they canned her when they realized they couldn't make her not cliche. (which makes Kayn's existence as a deliberate edgelord even funnier, lol) WELL was envisioned as a water elemental early in the game's life. He was called off when someone asked Riot if they actually had the graphics technology to make him look good, and they didn't. When they soon did, they gave the concept another shot in the form of Seth, a sand mage which became Azir (listed above) PRISCILLA was a "Spider Queen" champion who was canned despite her model and voice lines being found in the game. Fan petition for her inclusion led to the creation of Elise. KADARIN was a "space marine-styled gladiator" who had a pretty neat history: TotalBiscuit (RIP) won a prize in the now-defunct Refer-A-Friend system where he could help cocreate a champion, but when his idea got rejected, he gave the prize to the Make a Wish Foundation. Kadarin is a concept proposed by a kid named Samuel, but while an experimental prototype was tested, "it's unlikely you'll ever see Kadarin as a full package. " HUSK was a champion idea designed by IronStylus before he left Riot, whose design elements inspired Kai'Sa and Camille. Her story was that she was Caitlyn's former partner, but she was betrayed and paralyzed, so she defected to Zaun and formed a mercenary group called H. I. V. E.

Wow theyre really milking this series. She's missing trailer. She's missing movie wikipedia. She 27s missing movie. The year is 1860. Abraham Lincoln had just been elected President. Italian Unification is in full swing. The first debates on evolution are being held at Oxford University… …and in the shipyards of Spencer’s Island, Nova Scotia, a ship is being constructed. Built using locally felled timber, she is 99 feet long and 25 feet wide, smaller than the Galleons or Ships of the Line we normally visualize when we think of old sailing ships. Her owners intend her to be a merchant brigantine, an investment that will make them all exceedingly wealthy through lucrative trans-Atlantic trade. By agreement, they name her the Amazon. -- Her maiden voyage takes place in June of 1861, with the Amazon sailing to the nearby Five Islands to take on lumber destined for Great Britain. Her Captain for the voyage, Robert McLellan, was in fine health and an experienced sailor. Yet after supervising the loading of the Amazon ’s timber cargo and guiding his vessel into Atlantic waters, Captain McLellan began to feel ill. At first, he insisted that the voyage continue, but as his condition worsened and he required more advanced medical attention, the crew made the decision to return to their home port. But it was no good, Robert McLellan died in his sleep on June 19th, 1861. The voyage resumed under the captaincy of a man named John Parker, but the ship’s misfortune did not abate. She ran into fishing equipment of the coast of Maine and collided with a fellow merchant vessel in the English Channel. Sailors are superstitious folk and the ship had endured such terrible misfortune that many spoke of her being cursed. Her crew told tales that the Amazon was doomed to suffer the wraith of the cruel, unforgiving sea wherever she may sail. Finally, in 1867, the Amazon was driven ashore Cape Breton Island by a storm. She was so badly damaged that her owners abandoned her as a wreck, cutting any further losses that the Amazon may incur. It is entirely possible that they too believed the sailor’s stories of cursed ships. -- Alexander McBean knew his maritime law well. He knew that a derelict was considered abandoned property in the eyes of the law, and thus he was free to claim it as his own. McBean made a lot of money this way, for he also knew that the construction of a brand new vessel from scratch was sometimes hideously expensive. Some shipwrights would pay handsomely for a derelict to act as a kind of skeleton for a new ship, salvaging the keel or masts to cut costs and maximise profit. The derelict then came to the attention of one William Haines, an American mariner from New York City, who paid over $10, 000 (equivalent to $175, 000 today) to purchase and restore the vessel. He made himself captain of his new craft, and in December of 186, registered her in New York as an American vessel, under a new name. The Mary Celeste. -- The Mary Celeste ended up changing ownership once more before the voyage that would make her famous, and by 1872 was being captained by Benjamin Briggs, a competent, intelligent yet deeply religious man from a family of sailors. Captain Briggs, being the wise and experienced captain he was, selected his crew carefully. All were men we had either previously sailed with, or had received letters of recommendation for that described them as peaceable, first class sailors. After an extensive re-fitting in New York Harbour, the Mary Celeste was ready for her first journey under her new name. She would be carrying 1, 701 barrels of denatured alcohol (to be used in fuels, surgical and laboratory work) to the port of Genoa in Italy, and on October 20th, 1872, Captain Briggs arrived in New York to supervise the vessel’s loading. It took an additional two weeks of preparation to finally depart, with Captain Briggs insisting that they wait for a break in bad weather before sailing into the Atlantic. Finally, on November 7th, 1872, the skies cleared, the waves eased, and Captain Briggs ordered his crew to raise anchor and set sail for Europe. Around the same time, another brigantine, the Canadian registered Dei Gratia, was waiting to make an almost identical voyage to Genoa via British Gibraltar. Some accounts of the period state that *Dei Gratia’*s captain, David Morehouse, was friends with Captain Briggs and that the two dined together before the morning of the Mary Celeste’s departure. If true, then there’s a chance that Captain Morehouse was present in New York for the launch of the Mary Celeste. Doubtless the pair will have wanted to discuss navigation and possible weather patterns in the mid-Atlantic, after all, the captained almost identical vessels. So on November 15th, just eight days after the Mary Celeste’s own departure, Dei Gratia departed for Italy using roughly the same route as her follow brigantine. -- In the early afternoon of Wednesday, December 4th, the Dei Gratia found itself midway between the Azores Islands and the western coast of Portugal. Captain Morehouse was resting in his quarters when a crew member frantically summoned him to the main deck. Taking out his spy-glass, his vision was directed about six miles off the bow, where in the distance, a lone vessel was heading unsteadily towards them. As is previously mentioned, Captain Morehouse was himself an experienced and capable Nova Scotian sailor. From the approaching vessels erratic movement and the unusual set of her sails, Morehouse recognized that something was badly wrong. Captain Morehouse gave orders to his crew to begin signalling to the approaching vessel; and using small, black flags known as ‘day shapes’, they did so. Their signals were not returned. As the ships drew closer to one another, Morehouse saw no one on the ship’s deck. The ship should have been teeming with life at this point; men should have been climbing the rigging and manning the ship’s wheel, but not a living soul was in sight. It was only then that he used his spy-glass to catch the name of the vessel, painted proudly on the stern. It was the Mary Celeste. -- Captain Morehouse must have been horrified. He had dined with the Mary Celeste ’s Captain just a month before and knew that the man’s family would be present on board for the voyage; he had probably met her crew at some point too. Yet here she was, floating aimlessly in the Atlantic, with not a single sign of life anywhere about her. Morehouse immediately ordered a boarding party to prepare a row boat. Upon climbing aboard, they found the ship’s sails only partially set, with some damaged or missing entirely, as if the crew had been suddenly interrupted in the middle of such an important part of routine maintenance. What’s more, most of the ship’s rigging had been damaged, with some cables hanging loosely over the vessel’s sides. Upon inspection, the boarding party discovered that the Mary Celeste ’s one and only lifeboat was missing, along with the ship’s compass which had been torn from its moorings, the glass encasing it smashed to smithereens. This was obviously evidence that some of the ship’s crew had escaped the vessel, but there was no way the small lifeboat could accommodate the crew in its entirety. What’s more, the reason the crew has chosen to abandon ship was not entirely evident. The ship wasn’t sinking, it only had a manageable amount of water in the hold and the damage to the rigging and sails was entirely repairable. Galley equipment was neatly stowed away; there was no food prepared or under preparation, but there were ample provisions in the stores. There were no obvious signs of fire or violence; the evidence indicated an orderly departure from the ship, by means of the missing lifeboat. -- In an attempt to get to the bottom of such a mystery, Captain Morehouse consulted the Mary Celeste ’s daily logs. The final entry made was from 8:00am on November 25th, just nine days earlier, and made no references to trouble or dangers faced by the crew. However, the quarters of Captain Briggs has been ransacked. Personal items were strewn around the cabin and most of the ship's papers were missing, together with the captain's personal navigational instruments. Captain Morehouse made the decision to split his crew of eight sailors between the two vessels in order to pilot both to the port of Gibraltar. He sent his first mate and two experienced seamen to Mary Celeste, while he and four others remained on Dei Gratia. Under maritime law, a substantial share of the combined value of rescued vessel and cargo could be expected if a derelict was successfully recovered. The weather was relatively calm for final stretch of their voyage, but just before their arrival in Gibraltar, the Mary Celeste was engulfed in a thick, impenetrable fog. The crew of the Dei Gratia noted that the mist seemed to close in around the ship, whilst bafflingly avoiding their own, almost as if the mist was drawn towards the other vessel. They feared her lost, but much to Captain Morehouse’s relief, the Mary Celeste arrived in port the following morning. Yet the crew were shaken, they refused to recall what had happened while they were consumed by such dark and murky vapours. Once on dry land, they refused to step foot back on board the Mary Celeste for reasons that are unknown up until today. -- So why was the Mary Celeste abandoned in such a way? In the immediate aftermath of the event the Attorney General of Gibraltar, one Frederick Solly-Flood, was appointed to unravel the mysteries of the abandoned ship. He quickly came to the conclusion that foul-play was to blame. To the horror of the Dei Gratia ’s crew, they found themselves prime suspects in the investigation. Initially, Solly-Food asserted that it was a case of Insurance Fraud, but these were hastily refuted by the owners of the Mary Celeste, as no inquiry was instituted by the companies that issued the insurance policies. Solly-Flood then asserted that it was entirely possible that Captain Morehouse, in full knowledge of the Mary Celeste ’s proposed route, could have set a trap for her. He and his crew could have lain in wait for Mary Celeste, then after luring Briggs and his crew aboard the Dei Gratia, slaughtered them and cast their corpses overboard. However, investigators quickly deduced that this was impossible. As well as being a slower ship, the Dei Gratia departed New York Harbour a full eight days after the Mary Celeste, there was absolutely no way she could have caught up with her before her arrival in Gibraltar. But despite his high position and important duties, Frederick Solly-Food was described as a man “whose arrogance and pomposity were inversely proportional to his IQ” and that once he had made up his mind on something, could not be convinced otherwise no matter how rational or persuasive an argument. Hardly the traits of a thorough or proficient detective. -- And so, almost a hundred and fifty years later, we are forced to consider more fantastical explanations for the disappearance of the Mary Celeste’s crew. One such theory is based around the idea that the ship was attacked by Riffian Pirates. Also known as Riyafa or Rwafa, the Riffians are an Arabic speaking people from North-Western Africa, who take their name from the coastal Riff region of modern day Morocco. The Riffians have historically inhabited an impoverished, eroded, deforested and poorly irrigated region, meaning a hard life awaits anyone born into a Riffian family. It is for this reason, much like modern day Somalia, that the Riffians often turned to piracy to provide a better life for their families. In addition to boarding an capturing merchant shipping, the Riffians engaged in what they called Razzia, which were raids on European coastal towns and villages. The main purpose of such raids was to capture slaves to be sold in the Ottoman Empire, and the Riffians did not discriminate; slaves could be of any race and any religion, if it walked and talked, it could be put to work. If this really was the case, the reality of it must’ve been terrifying. The Riffians would have waited for ideal conditions, calm waters in the dead of night. Almost silently, they would have rowed their small skiffs towards the vulnerable Mary Celeste, readying their boarding ropes, clutching their weapons. Then, as one, they’d have attacked. War cries in a strange, guttural language would have echoed around the ship as any resistance would have been swiftly put down. Women and children taken as slaves, as any men capable of struggle are put to the sword. However, in his account of the maritime mystery, written in 1942, the historian Charles Fay notes that Riffian Pirates, in addition to taking slaves, would have fully looted the Mary Celeste before departing. Yet much of the crew’s personal items, some of which include a valuable sword and sheathe, remained untouched. As one can imagine, such an ornate weapon would have made a fine trophy or fetched a fine price in eastern bazaars. It makes absolutely no sense that it was left behind in such a way. -- Another theory proposed by historians is perhaps the most quietly terrifying of them all. During his research into the event, the historian Charles Fay made a perturbing discovery. The Captain of the Mary Celeste, Benjamin Briggs, was a devout Christian and a deeply religious man. He would constantly read his Bible whilst at sea and would often quote passages as solutions to many of his vessel’s problems. He was apparently fond of quoting chapter 4, verses 9-11. “But God said to Jonah: Do you have a right to be angry about the vine? And he said: I do. I am angry enough to die. ” Briggs would also violently attest to the strength of his own faith during prayer meetings often held on the ship, something that was noted in some of the crew’s personal diaries with varying levels of trepidation. It is these diary entries that lead historian John Gilbert Lockhart to conclude that Captain Briggs had somehow entered a fit of religious mania or rage. Hunting his own crew throughout the ship and murdering them one by one before taking his own life. But in the years after this theory was purported, Lockhart conducted extensive interviews with the surviving relatives of Captain Briggs’s family and was assured that Benjamin did not have a violent bone in his body, that he was a gentle man, simply incapable of such a violent rampage. Lockhart subsequently issued a public apology and withdrew his theories from contention. However, I cannot personally dismiss such an idea, especially since the likelihood of the aforementioned relatives willingness to display the missing Benjamin in a positive light. No on wishes to speak ill of the dead, to drag their name through the mud when they’re not around to defend themselves, especially not a person’s very own blood relations. And after all, it was almost common knowledge that the ship was cursed. Could it be that Captain Briggs, with his particularly zealous personality, could have detected, or even been infected by whatever malevolent, infernal presence plagued the Mary Celeste? As if it was some kind of floating Overlook Hotel. -- Finally, and perhaps most terrifying of all, is the theory that the Mary Celeste was attacked by some kind of large, sea creature; specifically, the Colossal Squad. A cousin to the Giant Squid, Colossal Squids have been known to grow to sizes of up to fifty feet in length, making it one of the largest living organisms ever recorded. Unlike its smaller cousin, whose tentacles have only suckers lined with small teeth; the Colossal Squid's tendril limbs are also equipped with razor sharp, tri-pointed hooks, while its body is considerably wider, and therefore heavier, than that of the Giant Squid. This is down to what zoologists call ‘Deep Sea Gigantism’, the name given to the tendency of deep sea animals to be much larger than those that dwell in the shallows. This is due to a number of factors, including lower temperatures, rarity of food sources and the reduced competition among predators at those depths. Significantly lower temperatures are thought to result in increased cell size and increased life span, both of which lead to an increase in maximum body size. Deep sea creatures have also been known to be able to survive for five years at a time without feeding due to their slower metabolism. This would explain why such creatures are rarely seen in shallower waters. -- Imagine the scene if you will. You’re a crew member of the Mary Celeste, manning your post during a long, hard shift of sailing. Suddenly, you see something moving just off the side of the ship. You’ve heard the stories of Sea Monsters dragging vessels to their dooms, but as thrilling as the tall tales were, you knew in the back of your mind that’s all they were, just stories told by old salts. But now, as something gargantuan emerges from the briny depths, it’s black, lifeless eyes studying your lonely brigantine hungrily, you realize with utter horror that all the stories are true. You realize that beneath the roaring waves, and mountainous swells, there really were things that watched and waited to pull poor sailors such as yourself to the bottom of the ocean. The Mary Celeste was only nine foot deep below her decks, meaning such a Colossal Squid would have easily been able to wrap its flailing tentacles all the way around the much smaller ship. The Colossal Squid also has the largest eyes of any animal on earth, the largest recorded specimen having an eye that was almost half a metre in diameter. The creature truly is a monster. One simply cannot imagine the complete and utter terror that the crew felt when, or if, it encountered such a beast. The flailing, barbed tentacles that could tear away a man’s flesh in an instant with its huge, obsidian eyes rolling in frenzy. -- It could have made short work of any attempt to defend the ship, which carried nothing in the way of substantial weaponry; then simply picked off crew members at will. Larger, deep sea creatures will often gorge themselves on a supply of food as a way to counter food scarcity, so it’s not entirely out of the question that an attacking Colossal Squid would have simply eaten its way through the crew until there was nothing left to feed on. Imagine that for a moment. Tentacles furious probing every nook and cranny of the ship, hunting for what was soft and warm, for what was living, for what it could devour. They would find someone, wrapping themselves around their prey as hooked barbs tore into its victims flesh. The screams on a calm night must have echoed around the ship endlessly. Then, after a period of brief respite in which the great beast consumed it’s terrified quarry, the tentacles came again, and again, and again. Gorging and gorging, mindlessly feasting on whoever was too weak to defend themselves. During one of these periods of time in which the tentacles retreated, it’s possible that the surviving crew members launched a daring escape attempt using the ship’s sole lifeboat, hastily gathering up the necessary navigational equipment before they fled. This would also explain the unusual set of the ships sails when discovered by the crew of the Dei Gratia, as the Squid’s tentacles would undoubtedly and torn and ripped the fabric of sails and ropes, but only do superficial damage to the ship’s timber. -- But no matter how much evidence supports any of the aforementioned theories, the fate of the Marie Celeste ’s crew members has forever remains a complete mystery. Yet this is not where the story of the Mary Celeste ends, not by any means. After length inquiries into the disappearance of her crew, the Mary Celeste arrived back into New York Harbour on September 17th, 1873. But after the slew of garish newspaper stories describing the Gibraltar hearing’s suspicions of bloodshed and betrayal, the superstitious sailors of New York and New England simply refused to sail on her. The ship rotted in the harbour, no one would touch her, and the following year she was sold on at a considerable loss to the owners. It was under this new ownership that the Mary Celeste found itself in the South Atlantic in February of 1879. She was well known in the maritime community for being a ship that barely made a profit, since it was forced to pay exorbitant wage packets to the men who sailed on her, thanks to her reputation for being cursed. She was also occasionally mentioned in the Shipping News and this is how we know her whereabouts during early 1879. She crew had put out a call from the island of St. Helena, seeking emergency medical attention for their captain, Edgar Tuthill, who had suddenly and mysteriously fallen ill. Captain Tuthill would not survive his illness, and tragically died on the island, leaving behind a grieving family. He was the third of her captains to die prematurely whilst commanding the vessel. Among sailors, there was no doubt now, the Mary Celeste was cursed, it was a ship of Death. -- Additionally, in July of 1885, the Mary Celeste was at the centre of a conspiracy to commit insurance fraud. Captain Gilman C. Parker was held in his native Boston on charges of “wilfully casting away a ship”, a crime known as barratry which, at the time, was punishable by the death penalty. He also conspired with others to claim on a cargo of near worthless items that were fraudulently documented as being considerably more valuable. Yet antiquated legal loopholes involving insurance pay-outs caused the trial to fall apart and Captain Parker walked away a free man. But it appears that he was unable to escape the curse of the Mary Celeste, for his reputation was left in tatters, and he died in abject poverty just three months afterward. What’s more, one of Captain Parker’s crewmates and co-defendants began a slow descend into madness, losing his mind to the extent that he committed suicide, heavily referencing the cursed ship in his hastily scribbled suicide note. The historian Paul Begg, who has heavily focused his professional career on the mysteries of the Mary Celeste, said that “if the court of man could not punish these men... the curse that had devilled the ship since her first skipper Robert McLellan had died on her maiden voyage could reach beyond the vessel's watery grave and exact its own terrible retribution. " -- The mystery of the Mary Celeste became the benchmark for cases involving miraculous disappearances, but it was not the first or last ship to have its crew disappear whilst on the high seas. In October of 1955, a seventy ton American merchant vessel, the MV Joyita, completely disappeared in the South Pacific between the islands of Tokelau and Samoa. The ship was related around a month later, drifting off the coast of Vanua Levu, over five hundred miles away from its planned route. She was completely abandoned; none of its twenty five crew members were ever seen again. After a US Navy investigatory committee failed to establish a reasonable explanation, historian David Wright described the affair as “a classic marine mystery of Mary Celeste proportions”. -- At Spencer’s Island, Nova Scotia, the very site the brigantine was constructed, a monument commemorates the lost crew of the Mary Celeste. An outdoor theatre also stands at the site, built in the shape of the same vessel’s hull. It is a fitting tribute to a timeless tragedy that captured the imaginations of the entire world, but one that hides a dark, disturbing truth that might well be forever out of reach to those that seek it. Whether it was natural disaster, animal attack, or the greed and deviousness of man that turned the Mary Celeste into a Ghost Ship; one thing is certain. That the High Seas will never be a place where mankind is entirely safe, something is always out there, watching, waiting, just beyond the horizon.

(CNN) -- Richard Jewell, the security guard wrongly suspected and later cleared of setting off a deadly bomb at Atlanta, Georgia's Centennial Olympic Park during the 1996 Olympics, died Wednesday morning, his attorney, Lin Wood, told CNN. Richard Jewell, who was wrongly suspected of setting off a bomb during the 1996 Olympics, has died. Jewell, 44, died of natural causes at his home in Woodbury, Georgia, according to Meriwether County Coroner Johnny Worley. Jewell had been suffering from diabetes and kidney failure since February, Worley said. Worley is working with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation on the autopsy, which should be completed Thursday afternoon. No foul play is suspected, he said. Watch friends remember Jewell as dedicated » After 12 weeks of scrutiny following the bombing, Jewell was cleared by the FBI and U. S. Attorney Kent Alexander in an unprecedented government acknowledgment of wrongful accusation. "I am not the Olympic Park bomber, " Jewell told reporters after being cleared. "I am a man who has lived 88 days afraid of being arrested for a crime I did not commit. " The FBI, Jewell said, trampled on his rights "in its rush to show the world it could get its man, " while the news media "cared nothing about my feelings as a human being" in its rush to get a story on the bombing. Jewell was working as a private security guard in Centennial Olympic Park about 1 a. m. on July 27 when he noticed a suspicious unidentified package and began moving people away from it. The package turned out to contain a bomb, which eventually killed one person and wounded more than 100. Initially hailed a hero for moving people away, he was later cast in a different light when the FBI began investigating whether he had set off the bomb to give himself an opportunity to be a hero. For weeks, reporters and camera crews camped outside Jewell's Atlanta apartment, capturing every move that he -- and the FBI -- made. He later sued the FBI and several media organizations. CNN and NBC were among the organizations that settled with him. In April, 2005, Eric Robert Rudolph pleaded guilty to the bombing. Rudolph was captured in Murphy, North Carolina, in May 2003 after one of the largest manhunts in U. history. Rudolph also pleaded guilty to the 1998 bombing of a family planning clinic in Birmingham, Alabama, that killed a police officer and two 1997 bombings at an abortion clinic and a gay nightclub in Georgia. He is serving four consecutive life sentences plus 120 years for the convictions. E-mail to a friend CNN's Marylynn Ryan contributed to this story. He's perfect in every frame! #AdityaRoyKapoor has delivered a fab performance, his best too so far. #KunalKhemu (superb as Michael here) intense job like Aditya did with this role. Kudos to his work. #Dishapatani is no more an eye candy, as she's just excellent as Sara, the carefree girl who wants to explore, experiment and live life to the fullest in the beginning or a concerned woman who wants to keep the baby later! #ElliEvram would surprise you and other supporting cast wouldn't let you down as well! The beauty of #Goa captured by the cameramen, amazing song sequences, fierce #action scenes, great amount of twists and turns and lovely #music, along with some wonderful #acting make this flick a must watch this weekend! #Cinematography is awesome. #Pub culture, disco lights in the #discotheques, are real heaven. And water sports, #underwater #swimming, all of them are very catchy and eye feasting scenarios. And top it all, while doing underwear swimming disha's hour glass figure & Aditya roy kapoor six pack abs looked so perfect. WOW What a lovely pair they make. The #revenge #story holds you throughout and thankfully, in this movie, all the questions are answered at the end and not before. The #twists were good. Acting, Story, Visuals Direction Deepesh posted a review for Malang - Unleash The Madness in Movies A full-on bollywood thriller, with typical Mohit Suri elements, engaging direction & brilliant performances by Aditya & Anil Kapoor(but Kunal Khemu was just okayish & Disha, though looked stunning, still needs to improve on her acting). Super melodious songs & nice, unique camera work(though the camera angles were copied from movies like 1917 & birdman yet at least they made it look different). Wish the storyline was much better and not just a sort of mixture of Murder 2 and Ek Villain. But some terrific direction, crisp editing & good acting blended with soulful music makes this a really entertaining watch! I was able to connect with it's characters completely & hence found it to be pretty good overall. Acting, Direction, Story, Visuals Dev posted a review for Malang - Unleash The Madness in Movies Malang An average revenge drama with some good performances, hearty music and captivating visuals as the guardian angel! The movie evokes dejavu of Mohit Suri's own films in the past like Ek Villain, Murder 2 and Half Gitlfriend, the major reason why this revenge thriller ended up as a decent one-time watch at the best. The narrative, even though hackneyed has its share of enjoyable moments and the small twists in the storyline ensured that the thrills are maintained till the end of the presentation. The chemistry between Aditya Roy Kapur and Disha Patani was lovable and both the actors played their part really well. Anil Kapoor and Kunal Khemu too made their presence felt with memorable acts. All the songs were impressive with the picks being the title song and the highly addidtive 'Chal Ghar Chalein'. Overall - Malang is a decent revenge drama that's worth a one time watch from the cinemas! 3/5 Mahendra posted a review for Malang - Unleash The Madness in Movies **A very good attempt to a brilliant romantic thriller** Loved the story and cinematography! Good to see use of day-to-day contemporary camera equipments like GoPro Hero8 being used to shoot few scenes. Also, brilliant on the visuals of the movies too! Although not too much. Music is also really good in this movie. No doubt! But coming to the entire execution and acting: The acting by each and everyone is just mind blowing. Hats off to Aditya and Anil Kapoor! What great acting him by them both. Disha and kunal had done fabulas work. Overall a nice movie, go and watch it for a typical Mohit soori film! Ravi posted a review for Malang - Unleash The Madness in Movies Malang has all the ingredients to make the movie enjoyable. I love it when the backdrop is Goa and that adds automatically a beauty that appease eyes. Four actors are worth applauding here- Anil Kapoor, Kunal Khemu, Aditya Roy Kapoor and Disha. Anil Kapoor got a very interesting and layered character to play and with just his body language, we understand what his personality is. As a seasoned actor, this must come natural to him. Needless to say, Anil Kapoor's versatility is unmatched. Kunal Khemu gave me shivers. His character and how he conveyed that role to me, the audience, made me wonder of human psyche overall. When the story starts, we pay less attention to this character but as the story progresses, we look out for the personality and try getting inside his head. His acting walked through that thin line of perfection that light up a spark of fear in my soul. Now the hero, Aditya. It was with smoothness he slipped from that carefree soul to the man who demands eye for an eye. The Happy Aditya and the Angry Aditya was equally convincing. So with this role, he built up his resume: romantic hero, action hero, aggressive hero, chilled out hero, tragedy hero. The heroine played by Disha has a lovable personality. The way she manages to protray the integrity of her character at the same time looking drop down gorgeous is remarkable. Though her dialogs were supportive for her narration, it was her facial expressions that made us route her story from her happy days to her not happy days. The movie has its highs and lows with the highs extremely beautiful and lows ignorable. The revenge story holds you throughout and thankfully, in this movie, all the questions are answered at the end and not before. The twists were good and were made good only because of the meritocracy of the star cast. The poetic justice of the revenge story leaves us satisfied and we go home in peace. So whether it's worth watching in theatre, let's list out the why: - For love of Goa, seeing Goa in big screen is a high - the songs are so beautiful and imagine hearing that in a plush theatre, hearing sensory all happy - there are interesting twists and plots. In order to enjoy this jolts to the brain, you got to see before someone else does it and give your spoilers - this is a good choice for a movie date. The vibes that clicks instantly between the hero and heroine can create a nostalgia. - everyone acted decent enough that you will not get irritated over the money wasted Acting, Direction, Story Visuals Gejoe posted a review for Malang - Unleash The Madness in Movies Malang is one of the most exciting edge-of-the-seat thrillers Bollywood has ever made. Mithoon's BGM is mind-blowing. Anil Kapoor's awesome performance as a cop is sure to get him several awards. As usual, Aditya Roy Kapur and Disha Patani are so effortless. The screenplay isn't that great, but that was the case with Ek Villain as well. Mohit Suri's knack lies in lifting an average screenplay and he does it admirably well. Nancy posted a review for Malang - Unleash The Madness in Movies Malang is the best Mohit Suri film in years and works because of its well-paced narrative, treatment, performances and unpredictable factor. Talking about its negatives, it seems like a bhel puri of various films we have seen in the past, including some of Mohit Suri's previous flicks. Songs are okay. A few developments don't make much sense and are unconvincing. But on the positive side, the film doesn't bore even for a second. There are lot of characters and sub plots but they are well stitched together. And the climax is out of this world that suddenly make this one-time-watch film into a must-watch-affair! Aditya Roy Kapur is quite good and in a way, it's in the Aashiqui 2 zone. But the intensity is different here and Aditya excels. Disha Patani gets the maximum screen time in her career arguably, at least in Bollywood. Her screen presence is excellent and she does a very good job. Anil Kapoor as always is entertaining and dependable. Kunal Kehmu, after kalank, pulls off a difficult role with ease once again. Elli Avram looks interesting and emotes well. However her dialogue delivery could have been better. Amruta Khanvilkar is excellent while Devika Vatsa, Vatsal Seth, Keith Sequeira and Prasad Jawade are fine. All in all, Malang is a big surprise of recent times - a film that seemed decent at best from the promos but exceeds expectations and how! Ester posted a review for Malang - Unleash The Madness in Movies Definitely went beyond my expectations. The movie turned out to be better than its trailer. Once again Mohit Suri has taken the audience's adrenaline gushing with this action-packed, intense thriller. All the actors' performances were par excellence. Won't say much about the plot, because then that will take away the real charm of the movie. Its a must watch. It is definitely worth your money and time. The movie won't disappoint you. I am going to watch the movie again, for sure. Loki posted a review for Malang - Unleash The Madness in Movies The movie is really worth watching from a Director's point of view. To the point let's accept the fact that every bollywood movies has no or similar story lines, it's the Director who gives a different shape, makes the audience to stay tuned and watch till the terms of acting, everyone has played their part with full honesty. Kunal Khemu is brilliant actor but has under rated so far, though he used the space correctly this time also. Lime posted a review for Malang - Unleash The Madness in Movies I didn't expect this movie to be so so good, the trailer was already promising but the movie plot had so many twists and turns that it left me entertained & shocked till the last second of the movie. Amazing acting by both Aditya and are good, but the title song is taken as baseline for few scenes and it makes greater impact. Ram posted a review for Malang - Unleash The Madness in Movies Malang has a well-written plot and takes you by surprise in the second half. The movie feels predictable and dull initially but goes from 0-100 real quick. Anil Kapoor, Aditya and Kunal all performed well and Disha was decent. Overall a great one time watch, will definitely keep you at the edge of your seat in the climax. Fleming posted a review for Malang - Unleash The Madness in Movies Speaking of performances, each and every actor does fine. Aditya Roy Kapur is in great form. He looks very convincing as a fearless man with a vengeance who can take on dozens of goons. His acting in some crucial scenes could have been better but he manages. Disha Patani probably gets the most screen time ever. She looks gorgeous and delivers a heartwarming performance. Anil Kapoor provides the humour quotient. But his character is a lot more than just a funny man and the talented actor gets it just right. And he looks dashing! Kunal Kemmu’s character too has a lot of shades and he rocks the show. Elli AvrRam is decent at best. Her dialogue delivery could have been a bit better. Vatsal Seth, Keith Sequeira and Prasad Jawade are okay. Devika Vatsa (Vani Agashe) leaves a huge mark in a cameo" Shrey posted a review for Malang - Unleash The Madness in Movies Finally a good action packed realistic love story after a long time. Intense love story and good realistic action scenes except for a few. Concrete story line with an emotional touch to end the movie. All the actors looked good both with their skills and their looks. A twisting, ironical, spicy, entertainment movie which will not let you bore a minute. Acting, Story Direction, Visuals Riju posted a review for Malang - Unleash The Madness in Movies This movie is for those who are more inclined to watch suspense Thriller. The movie is directed by Mohit Suri. The movie features Aditya Roy Kapoor, Disha Patani, Anil Kapoor and Kunal Khemu. In the story, advait meets Sara in Goa and they both fall in love with each other. Advait remembers taking pictures with his camera as a profession. On the other hand Sara is a woman of open nature. The music is very well expressed in the movie. The climax of the movie could have been better, just like watching the story. My rating: Plot - 4/5 Soundtrack - 3. 5/5 Characters - 3. 8/5 Directions - 3. 8/5 Soumya posted a review for Malang - Unleash The Madness in Movies The story revolves around a couple in Goa, confronting two police officers Anjaney Agashe (Anil Kapoor) and Michael Rodriguez (Kunal Kemmu) and the collisions have on each other's future. Advait (Aditya Roy Kapur) is an amazing actor who really brought the character to life in. His physique, and his stunt skills are so stunning that I couldn't take my eyes off and has gone to another level. Disha Patani as Sara, worked well with her body and intellectual acting type, and her attitude as a woman who goes after what she wants. Coming to Kunal Kemmu, he was my sweetheart always. I became his hardcore fan, when I saw his movie "hum hain rahe pyar ke ". was released in 1993, and he acted as a role of Sunny, with his sweet, smart and quirky character, he outshone and stole my heart. In "Malang " his strenuous attitude, will make you wonder, what it would be like to be an amalgamation of Kunal (Michael)'s greatest weirdos? Well, look no further than Mohit Suri's thriller Malang. Elli Avram, as Jesse, looks determined and convincing. Music by Vikas Sivaraman is exciting, appealing. This exciting musical composition brings out a sense of adventure and student will enjoy the brisk tempo and fiery rhythms. Cinematography is unexplainable. Goan pub culture, disco lights in the discotheques, are real heaven. And water sports, underwater swimming, all of them are very catchy and eye feasting scenarios. And top it all, while doing underwear swimming Aditya's six pack abs and Disha's hour glass figure keep our mouth agape. WOW!!!! What a lovely pair they make!!! This film served as a great entertainment with it's colorful casts and numerous plot twists. There were a few times when the movie felt a bit drawn out, but gorgeous action scenes and impressive dialogues really held the audience attention and keep them on the edge of their endurance, courage, loyalty are some attributes deployed in the move. Despite the films minor short comings, the "Malang " is exciting, creative and well worth a few hours of your time. The film is worth all the praises Khirthi posted a review for Malang - Unleash The Madness in Movies Murali posted a review for Malang - Unleash The Madness in Movies The story of Malang offers nothing new and struggles to establish itself throughout. Some scenes appear cliched and others exaggerated. There isn’t much to spoil in this 'suspense-thriller’, but we assure you there are no spoilers in this eaking the story down, Advait meets Sara (Disha Patani) in Goa and the two fall in love (cliche alert). While Sara is a free-spirited young woman who wants to live her life to the fullest, Advait is happier with capturing moments in his camera. She tells Advait, ''Hum apne liye jeeyenge'', and the two begin facing their 'fears' by trying out different adventure sports. Manish posted a review for Malang - Unleash The Madness in Movies Movie is good for dance lovers otherwise like other Bollywood dance movies the movie lacks a solid plot and story. Plot looks cheap and straight. No suspense but a great action packed movie. Acting is good but not again upto the mark. Visuals are charming like other bollywood movies. A watchable movie for dance lovers who love the moves and way of dancing. Sai posted a review for Malang - Unleash The Madness in Movies Aditya Roy Kapoor, the aashiqui 2 star, who rose to his stardom with the film i mentioned already has been disappointing the audience since the past few films and this movie, malang follows the path. This movie has nothing new to offer to film lover that wants to spend a few hundred bucks during the weekend. Though with a stellar cast and humble production values the film has failed to create impact. But we get to see some gem level performances particularly from Anil kapoor and Kunal Khemu. AK has shown his other side in this film, as a villain. We never got to see this side of him and that is refreshingly new. Music was good, it added to the flow of the movie. Disha Patani has given her best. Mohit suri who delivered some dark but super hits like Ek Villain has failed to pull this off. Overall I would say you should wait for the tv or digital premier. Acting Direction, Story, Visuals Mahtab posted a review for Malang - Unleash The Madness in Movies Advait meets Sara during his trip to Goa. While he is a bit of an introvert, she is a free-spirited girl from London, who is visiting India for the first time and wants to live life to the fullest. They are instantly attracted to each other and make a pact to make the most of their time together. All is well until a twist in the tale sends their lives spinning out of control. Five years later, Advait goes on a killing spree on Christmas night. Anjaney Agashe, a police officer who often doesn’t follow the law, and Michael Rodrigues, a seemingly righteous cop, are now on his trail. They go on a mad hunt for him. Uncovering the reasons behind Advait's actions is what the rest of the film is about. Malang is a mediocre film with slight better visuals. Direction is pathetic with improper story and all the revenge and action scenes are melted down with crappy screenplay and story. Without content director can't make a proper thriller. There is no thrill only headache. Surya posted a review for Malang - Unleash The Madness in Movies Malang is a sweet surprise. I had very low expectations on this movie when it was announced but I liked the trailer cut a lot and the music was fab! And that was the reason why I wanted to watch this film. Aditya Roy Kapoor as Advait and Disha as Sara looked great on screen but it was Anil Kapoor who played the role of a drug addicted ruthless killer cop and he stole the show ( my personal opinion). The plot was very thin but the narration was good and the background scores and songs deserves an applause. Movie starts with a ruthless action block in a prison and quickly established the plot and screenplay was bang on. Interval was good and the backstory of the cop Michael Rodriguez was decent. Climax could have been better but overall it's a decent film. A good one time watch. Mayank posted a review for Malang - Unleash The Madness in Movies And now this is a great thriller action packed and paisa vasool movie by bollywood. The movie has strong acting by Aditya Roy Kapoor and Co-actress Disha Patani. Romance, suspense, emotions and a good ending makes this film another superhit by Aditya Roy Kapoor. Must watch. Agrippa posted a review for Malang - Unleash The Madness in Movies The movie is very very good. The only weakness for the movie would Aditya Kapoor Roy's body, acting and everything else about him. Also story might get little boring and slow pace bit in the first half but the later half will definitely make up for it. Everyone else does a brilliant job. Even kunal has done very convincing role. Just go and watch it if you like to watch thriller. Satwik posted a review for Malang - Unleash The Madness in Movies Each and every actor does a fine job. Aaditya Roy Kapur is good in the film. He acted very well as a fearless man with vengeance. Disha Patani looks gorgeous and gave a fabulous performance in one of the lead role. Anil Kapoor adds a humour touch to the film. We have to appreciate the work of cinematography here, Vikas Sivaraman is outstanding. The scenes of Goa and Mauritius are well captured. Overall Malang is a high style movie with thrilling moments! Life posted a review for Malang - Unleash The Madness in Movies Watched the movie today... First show! Aditya & Disha have done a nice job... Anil is good as usual... Kunal Kemu was a surprise performance.. All actors have done their small bit roles well.. Till interval it's a slow paced love story.. After interval you cannot blink or take your eyes from the screen... The Madness starts to unveil... Outstanding screenplay and direction... Complete Rollercoster entertainer... Paisa wasool... When u leave the theater.. You will remember three people... Aditya, Disha and Kunal Kemu.. Don't miss this one.. You will not get bored... It can be watched twice.. Acting, Direction Story, Visuals Raguram posted a review for Malang - Unleash The Madness in Movies Mohit Suri's Malang is one of the best Bollywood thrillers in recent times. I think this is the best from the director so far. Exceptional work indeed! Now coming to the performances, Anil Kapoor steals the show. Though he reminds us of the cop he played in Race franchise in the beginning, he's totally different here. He's perfect in every frame! Aditya Roy Kapoor has delivered a fab performance, his best too so far. We started to have a feeling that he's underrated too, like Kunal Kemu (superb as Michael here), Saif, Abhishek Bachchan and a few others in Bollywood. A very right choice to play this character. No one else would've done an intense job like Aditya did with this role. Also heard that he put on some 10 kgs for this character. Well deserving and it has paid for him! Disha is no more an eye candy, as she's just excellent as Sara, the carefree girl who wants to explore, experiment and live life to the fullest in the beginning or a concerned woman who wants to keep the baby later! Elli Evram would surprise you and other supporting cast wouldn't let you down as well! The beauty of Goa captured by the cameramen, scintillating song sequences, fierce action scenes, great amount of twists and turns and lovely music, along with some wonderful acting make this flick a must watch this weekend! Bharat posted a review for Malang - Unleash The Madness in Movies Good movie with one time watch story. Direction was good from Mohit with excellent performance by Aditya Roy and settled performance by Disha patani. Overall a movie with an average story. There were some twists and turns which thrills the audience.. Songs are good. Anil kapoor acting was also good. Sid posted a review for Malang - Unleash The Madness in Movies What do you get when you mix Action, Romance and Thrill and top it with a handful of sudden suspense? The answer is Mohit Suri's Malang. The scenes shot in Goa are beautiful though, and will make you want to pack your bags and go adventure sporting this weekend. The last 20 minutes of the film feels like the makers are trying their level best to justify why we saw what we saw. Everything is compressed and thrown to us like a fireball. Malang has some great dialogues but there was room for the improvement on that front as well. They could have been written more cleverly, to provide certain depth to the story to a story that otherwise feels shallow, despite all its complexities. All the Anil Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur fans can visit the theatre to enjoy watching their favorite actors on the screen. As for the others, you can gladly give it a miss. Malang rides on the thrill quotient, has some good looking pairs at its center but that's about it. The plot ends up looking like a mockery of a subject that needed a better storytelling. Anshul posted a review for Malang - Unleash The Madness in Movies Malang was the movie that I was really looking forward to seeing in the theaters very much because of Mohit Suri's past endeavor with suspense thrillers(ek villian and murder 2) and the great intriguing ensemble attached to very much the first scene I saw entering the theater was Aditya Roy Kapoor's back doing bulk of the talking, which was beautifully captured by the cinematographer and we are introduced to the" ruthless" Aditya Roy Kapoor for the first time in his tempo with which the movie commenced was quite soon the other character's attached to story were established and revealed with complications they are going Kapoor being a flipped cop fighting with inner demon's was absolutely marvellous and treat to watch on, Kunal khemu as being the virtuous and convulated cop was something that was done with pure perfection and ease delivering one of the finest performance of his patani as Sara was more than an eye candy this time around being a recklesslycarefree in her approach and a complete delight to the real Trump card that stood out was Aditya Roy Kapoor as adavait, he was completely deceitful in a way ranging from being joyous and loveable to cold blooded and sad*stic human you can imagine off. Screenplay was a bit lousy only on certain section keeping an account of Adavait and Sara's love story felt a bit lengthen up on the contrary to the high paced action sequences that were played on non linear pattern on screen, other than that it was a valiant effort. Cinematography was just outstanding and beautifully captured keeping in mind the serenic beauty of Goa in sync with the raunchy night lifestyle. Editing was tightly executed keeping the tempo at the right scale on most, the two aspects that really needs the special worth of mentioning was music( including background score too) and fighting was really soothing and refreshing keeping in mind the era of remake and corniest stuff we are presented ghting sequences were perfectly staged and carved out which gave the scenes a more organic look. So guy's if you are planning to catch Malang this weekend or any time soon. Go ahead for it.... won't disappoint you. Ranjith posted a review for Malang - Unleash The Madness in Movies Aditya Roy Kapur is intoxicating and not in a bad way. He just levels up as far as his acting is concerned and also from alcohol to drugs. I’ve always trusted him when it comes to emotional scenes, but in this one, he just strengthens my trust when it comes to being a badass. His robust physique is not the only thing showcasing the efforts he has put in the film. From subtle stubble to thick-beard, Aditya’s face is a perfect fit for the various beard-styles catalogue. Disha Patani gets out of the shell and how? She has already got the looks working for her but this one’s special. She gets the scope to act & she does it pretty well. Still, a long way to go but she had to start somewhere. It’s been years of seeing Anil Kapoor acting and if you think he’s exhausted with the kind of roles he’s choosing, you need to see this one. A druggie police officer who knows no rule – you can’t take anyone but Anil. He justifies the character apart from a few traits which make him ham. Kunal Kemmu, the lost gem of Bollywood, fulfils mine appetite of wanting him back on screen. He gradually peels off the layers of his character, while exhibiting the depth he has got in his acting. Elli Avrram gets a character that is beautifully designed for her. Apart from her hippie looks, she understands the tonality of her character and never outdoes it. Lastly all said and done, malang takes you from one thrill another without taking much time the fast pace does not miss anything important and manages to narrate intriguing story without making you look at the watch Thanking you Visuals.

All characters/actors done great job. I'm writing the name in the order of great work in this film - Sir Anil kapoor/Kunal Khemu/Aditya R Kapoor/Disha.
First half is bit slow but the second half is great.
First half makes you confuse a bit with the presentation of story telling and then second half makes the confusion clear.
Not average not great but good to watch.
Twisted Story line with great characters movie is good.
Don't pay too much for the ticket.
Not more than 100 bucks.
I'm giving 6/10 stars.

This movie is amazing with a lot of twist and unpredictable ending. I love everything from songs, to the brother relationship, Amir's acting was priceless. The movie was full of action, with a little cute love story, and with so many heart touching parts, made me laugh, emotional and surprised. Amir is definatly a good actor but stunt, action or dance, is not him. the movie is running on publicity. Hitik for even for a title song would have made a big difference. overoll Dhoom 3 definatly missing the Dhoom in it. Sakina Sehgal on Saturday, December 14, 2013 Honestly thought nothing hearing the promo because it was so short. But the full version of this is soo catchy! I don't know Hindi so I'm not gonna sit here bashing because of the meaning of the lyrics, quite frankly I don't care, the tune's just really catchy and Shilpa Rao has a kickass voice. Jackpot on Wednesday, December 25, 2013 Although the song in itself is far meaningless and hopeless, its the rythmn and instruments making this more glorious & appealing. I am huge fan of Aamir like you all but he and katrina doesn't need to do any aerobics, typical bolly style. This deserve one time attention; in my opinion. Cognitive Neuroscience of Emotion Richard D. Lane Format Type: PDF Download: 119 Read Online: 1013 This book, a member of the Series in Affective Science, is a unique interdisciplinary sequence of articles on the cognitive neuroscience of emotion by some of the most well-known researchers in the area. It explores what is known about cognitive processes in emotion at the same time it reviews the processes and anatomical structures involved in emotion, determining whether there is something about emotion and its neural substrates that requires they be studied as a separate domain. Divided into four major focal points and presenting research that has been performed in the last decade, this book covers the process of emotion generation, the functions of amygdala, the conscious experience of emotion, and emotion regulation and dysregulation. Collectively, the chapters constitute a broad but selective survey of current knowledge about emotion and the brain, and they all address the close association between cognitive and emotional processes. By bringing together diverse strands of investigation with the aim of documenting current understanding of how emotion is instantiated in the brain, this book will be of use to scientists, researchers, and advanced students of psychology and neuroscience. Taken 4: Liam's cousin... So, it happened. I took Heliod Death and Taxes to the DDM Gaming cEDH Tournament in Pheonixville, PA yesterday, and I made top 4 after going 3-1 in regular rounds. Here's a write-up of what I remember and what I learned, although I'll admit some details could be slightly off. Before I start, here's the list I ran: and here's where I'll maintain my current list: Why did I rent a car and drive 2 hours to play mono-white [[Heliod, Sun-Crowned]] in a 60+ player cEDH tournament at a time where the metagame is solved and Fish Hulk is tier 0? Well, to be honest, I really love mono-white decks. You may remember me as the player who top 16'd the Spike Feeders tournament over a year ago with [[Lin Sivvi, Defiant Hero]]. I've made it my goal to develop and play best possible mono-white cEDH deck. Until Heliod was printed, that deck wasn't Sram or Teshar - I am 100% confident that it was Lin Sivvi and her banned-in-Mercadian-Masques-Constructed rebel shenanigans. With the printing of Heliod, mono-white gains a very compact win condition that doesn't really get hated out by it's own hate pieces, and I really think Heliod is now the best commander for mono-white. On a more serious note, I think hatebears are well-positioned at the moment, because there are a lot available that effectively hate on Fish Hulk, and a lot of Fish Hulk decks are playing very limited spot removal (often only 3-4 spells) in order to focus on stack interaction that doesn't interact with hatebears (Negate, Force of Negation, Swan Song, Flusterstorm). Also, as so many hatebears are two toughness or greater, they block all of the bodies Tymna usually tries to draw cards off of, and Heliod's ability to pump makes this even more troublesome. In terms of Heliod in particular, since a majority of hatebears are in white there is already a strong incentive to lean heavily into the color. Heliod combo is also only hated out by Null Rod and Cursed Totem effects, which aren't the best hate pieces for Fish Hulk, as they can easily adapt their lines towards Consult. The pressure created by Heliod isn't trivial, and many of my matches ended with one or more opponents one combat step from death and me at 50-70 life. In the end, Heliod really allows for a very Death and Taxes-like play style where you use your low curve to hate our early combos and then attempt a compact win, leaning into permanent-based protection for both your hate and your win conditions. I'm active in the Heliod discord channel (), and while we currently don't all agree on the best list, the discussion has definitely informed some of my choices. For example, I was initially against the inclusion of [[Sword of Fire and Ice]], but they convinced me to run it. My hot take tech choices were (in my opinion): [[Devoted Caretaker]]: This thing protects your hatebears. It protects your non-creature stax pieces. And it also blanks the most common removal in the format, Assassin's Trophy, Abrupt Decay, and Chain of Vapor. It does all this at 1 CMC. [[Leonin Arbiter]]: I was afraid of turn 1-4 Flash. At the very least, Cat Jesus punishes the many manabases that lean into running 10-11 fetchlands and a huge density of tutors. However, I am sometimes a bad player, and am ashamed to admit I played into my own Arbiter at least once yesterday. [[Order of the Sacred Torch]]: It counters Demonic Consult and Tainted Pact; Necropotence, Doomsday, and Ad Nauseum, Demonic Tutor, Vampiric Tutor, Imperial Seal, and Diabolic Intent; Tymna the Weaver, Kess Dissident Mage, Zur the Enchanter, and the Gitrog Monster; Assassin's Trophy, Toxic Deluge, and Fire Covenant. The card can do so much once you untap with it, so I think it's worth it. [[Samurai of the Pale Curtain]]: I prepared for Flash, but the fox is also good against Gitrog if they're trying to grind you out. I did expect someone would be running the Titans or Underworld Breach + Lion's Eye Diamond, but those cards never came up in my matches. [[Gideon of the Trials]]: I thought many decks would try to win with Fish even if they weren't Flash Hulk decks. I was right, and this card is often a must-counter. [[Apostle of Purifying Light]]: Instant speed exile is good against a lot of decks, and this can't be removed with Assassin's Trophy, Abrupt Decay, or Fire Covenant. However, I'd really prefer something with a single colorless activation cost. [[Legion's Landing]]: This can be used to combo off with two less mana (cast Ballista for X = 1, then attack with the Vampire to put a counter on Ballista), and when it flips it can pay one more, allowing you to combo off with only 3 mana available before combat. When it's flipped, Tymna has trouble grinding out card advantage, and it's also a really, really bad plan C/D win con. Since all the tokens have lifelink, they grow every turn with Heliod in play. This card did in fact win me a match. [[Serra's Sanctum]]: Because white deserves it's own Gaea's Cradle, and your commander is a 3 CMC enchantment. My deck is slightly warped to enable this, but I think it's worth it. Notable exclusions: [[Smothering Tithe]]: This card is four mana, and my average CMC is 1. 84. I think Smothering Tithe isn't quite powerful enough in a low curve deck that lacks stack interaction to make use of the mana generated on other players's turns. [[Alms Collector]]: Again, four mana, and also very narrow. I also don't respect Opus Thief enough, so eventually this will probably come back to haunt me. [[Eidolon of Rhetoric]] and [[Rule of Law]]: I am awful at playing under full Rule of Law effects, so I chose to keep it to Canonist, Deafening Silence, and Damping Sphere. Canonist and Sphere still stop Food Chain, and all three stop Scepter, so I think / hope that it's okay. So, on to the matches. Round 1: Me vs. Tymna + Thrasios Fish Hulk, Creaturelss Elsha, and Chulane Combo I started by focused on stopping T + T, but most of my hate also doubled for Elsha. T + T did not like this, but what do you expect when you bring the boogey man to a tournament? The biggest problem was Chulane, and he was getting a lot of incremental value. Chulane tried to go off when Elsha had a Counterbalance in play and failed, and I was able to Enlightened Tutor for a Aethersworn Canonist that was protected by one of my 1 CMC protection creatures, which is really the only lock I had available for Chulane. We went to time, and on my last turn I topdecked an Inventor's Fair which I cracked into T + T's Mindcensor to find a Triskelion in the top 4, and then went off. At this point I was pretty surprised to have won and thought this maybe be my one lucky match of the day. 1-0 Round 2: Bye / Me vs. FC Sliver, Derevi, and Tymna + Thrasios Fish Hulk Second round I had a bye due a technical glitch, so instead I played a feature match against Shaper (FC Sliver) and Scotty (Derevi). Shaper found Caretaker impressive as it stopped everyone from removing my hate pieces (as did I, to be honest) and while my combing was stopped I ended up beating every one down with Heliod-pumped Vampire tokens and hate bears (woohoo for plan C/D). I won some nice swag, including an amazing foil Mew alter of Ponder from Shaper! I'll admit, winning this game gave me some hope that I could compete. 2-0 Round 3: Me vs. Golos Lands, Chain Veil Teferi, and Unesh Pseudo-Consult This match was a master class on three things: why you need to be careful playing against stax effects, why you shouldn't rush your plays when you're close winning, and the problem with playing a meta deck designed to hate out a specific tier 0 deck. Unesh gets around a lot of my hate and started to get such incredible value off Sphinx triggers that we all focused on stopping him. There was an overloaded Cyclonic Rift that saved us, and on my turn I replayed a Pithing Needle on Teferi, a Thorn of Amethyst, and a Hushbringer to keep Unesh down. This ultimately led CVT to be unable to go off even though he removed my Needle, but it was unclear if there was a successful line available or not - it seemed like he possible miscounted his mana because of the Thorn. He passed with 3 life and a Mana Crypt as we went to time and entered our last turns. When it got to me I swung at Teferi to put it at 1 loyalty, and then passed, leaving up enough mana to Buried Ruin for my Walking Ballista and go off on my next / last turn. Unfortunately, this also left me open to Golos's Inkmoth Nexus which he pumped to exactly 10 infect with a Kessig Wolf Run. Because there was 50% chance of Teferi dying in his upkeep and the Golos player knew I could combo off on my next turn, he swung at me. Had my Hushbringer been up, he might have swung at Teferi instead, although if he swung at me and forced me to block with Hushbringer, I wouldn't have had the mana to go off and would have needed to topdeck a mana source that net 2+ mana. In the end, Teferi won his Crypt flip and tried again, and this time he was successful. The whole game had ultimately been warped around Unesh, because no one was actively prepared for that deck, and that let Teferi build up enough resources to remove my stax pieces and go off. 2-1 Round 4: Me vs. Yisan, Consult Kess, and Gitrog I knew I was almost surely in top 16 but wanted to win because I felt my win-by-bye was a little unfair. I shut Gitrog off with an early Spirit of the Labyrinth, while Yisan shut me and Kess off with Collector Ouphe and Kess shut me and Yisan off with Cursed Totem. At one point there was a grand exchange which unlocked my combo but left Gitrog shut down, and a couple turn cycles passed where everyone knew I could attempt to go off and played to stop me. Yisan played a Revoker on Heliod, and I hardcast a Triskelion which removed Kess's Dark Confidant, Yisan's Revoker, and Gitrog's mana dork. They were able to remove Triskelion (it was lacking counters but I could swing with it to initiate the combo), but I went off the following turn with Walking Ballista. Heliod really is slow but resilient, which makes it quite fun to play. 3-1 Top 16 / Round 5: Me v. Gitrog, and Najeela Tempo x 2 This was my fastest round - Gitrog was against shut down by Spirt of Labyrinth, and then one of the Najeela players made an unfortunate misplay in which they attempted to Oracle + Consult while I had an active Order of the Sacred Torch, thinking it must cost mana to activate. This is why it's important to read all of the hatebears and stax effects carefully! The second Najeela player set up to win the following turn, but on my turn I was able to Enlightened Tutor in my upkeep for Walking Ballista and go off with enough mana open to activate Heliod twice (thanks to Serra's Sanctum for 3, Nykthos for 5, and two other lands). I was also able to protect myself with a Giver of Runes and the Order of the Sacred Torch. The second Najeela player (Ernesto from The 99) said he thought I won because he just didn't respect Heliod enough to play around me comboing off, which is funny considered The 99 posted a video that same day where he lost to Heliod () and ranted about people not listening to him about the importance of locking out Heliod combo. Quite often I felt like I was at an advantage because other players thought Heliod was a fluke and didn't give it (or my hate pieces) the proper attention. This is the advantage of being a meta deck, but it obviously can't be relied on. 4-1 Final 4 / Round 6: Me vs. Yisan, Tatyova, and Oona Scepter Going into the match, I was very concerned because my deck is built to beat Fish Hulk, and what do we have in the top 4? No Fish Hulk to be seen. The second problem was I didn't really know anything about the Tatyova deck, so I didn't know what hate I needed to dig for. And to be honest, I was suprised by Oona, as I would expect that Tymna + Thrasios Scepter would be superior. However, Oona has one advantage: in a grindy match, Oona can act as a hate piece, exiling combo pieces and completely shutting down decks relying on Oracle + Lab Man/Jace to win. I think this was his plan, as he later told me he countered my Karn so I wouldn't be able to get my wincons from exile. Maybe this really was a good metagame call? I kept a very, very questionable 7 after a mulligan: Gemstone Caverns, Chrome Mox, Legion's Landing, Grafdigger's Cage, Stoneforge Mystic, Vryn Wingmare, and Pithing Needle. I was going first so Caverns was awful, but Cage shut down Yisan, Needle shut down Oona, and I imagined SFM into one of my card advantage engines was the only way I could keep up with Tatyova. I want to point out that I've goldfished this deck hundreds of times, so I'm familiar with what this type of hand can look like after a couple turns, and I am still unsure if keeping this hand was worth the risk. There were several turns where my only white source was Chrome Mox, and the other players were debating blowing it up to cut me off. Luckily, they chose to save their removal. I eventually had some decent hate on board, a Vampire token equipped with a Sword of Fire and Ice, and Oona and Yisan were completely locked out by my stuff while Yisan and shut off Tatyova with Lignify + Kenrith's Transformation. Oona tutored for a wheel, so I got greedy and played out my Karn in preparation. Unfortunately, he countered Karn and then he didn't wheel. Instead, Tatyova did a great Intuition for Cyclonic Rift, Ghostly Flicker, and a fetchland. We had no idea what was going on, gave him the land, and he Noxious Revival'd the Rift back. Had I not tapped out for Karn, I would have had two activations on Apostle of the Purifying Light open and could have possibly stopped the Rift. Instead, our boards were bounced and Tatyova demonstrated a Flicker loop with Mystic Sanctuary that drew his deck and pinged us out with Sunscorched Desert. We talked afterwards and there was probably a Trickbind line to get around my hate anyways, so I'm only a little upset with myself. As I said to many people throughout the event, a low-to-the-grown hatebear/Stax deck really gets destroyed by midrange value engine decks. Conclusions I think Heliod really was a great meta choice, and that choice combined with people underestimating Heliod led to a pretty successful weekend. I think that Oracle Consult lines are going to continue to show up everywhere, and I'm actually not that surprised that there was almost as much non-Flash Consult as there was Flash Hulk. I'm interested to see how the meta evolves from here, and hope we'll see more creative solutions to the format boogeyman. There were some cards I was really hoping to test that I never drew, so I'll need to keep testing. However, there's a good chance I will start trying out [[Holy Light]] over Karn. Holy Light is a mana dork wrath and so many decks rely on mana dorks instead of mana rocks these days. I'd also love to get one more card advantage engine, which is the big mono-white problem. I generally feel that [[Dawn of Hope]] is just a bad card, but maybe it could actually be useful with the passively accessible life gain provided by two 0 CMC permanents (High Market and Inventor's Fair), three 1 CMC permanents (Serra Ascendent, Alseid of Life's Bounty, and Legion's Landing), and four 2 CMC permanents (Hushbringer, Ashes of the Abhorrent, Blind Obedience, and Umezawa's Jitte). I'll probably test this quite a bit before the next tournament, which leads me to my plug: The DDM Gaming Competitive EDH 1K Championship Round 2 is coming on May 2nd! I think even in the Tier 0 Fish Hulk meta there is still room to brew and have fun, so I hope I'll see you all there. Here's the info: I also want to thank DDM Gaming, Nerd Mech, and the Rec Room for hosting the event! It was the most fun I've had playing Magic in years and I'm so happy I was able come and compete with such an underdog brew. I loved meeting a lot of the people I play with on co*ckatrice and hope to meet more of you next time!

The witcher wolf necklace. The wolf hour paperback. Can we like crowd fund this? I would totally pitch in. When you look back 20 years and we used to have better CGI... To preface: I backed Squad on Kickstarter just before the first vehicle release and modded Squad from day 1 of the SDK 2017-2019. I have 1. 7k hours logged in game. 1. 5k logged in the SDK. To some those might be a lot, others may find it a little. I have tried getting back into Squad recently but found the game to be lacking a sense of cohesion that used to be present in previous versions. There are many factors that go into this and I will be talking about a couple of them that I think have been reducing the overall gameplay experience. Helicopters: Since this is my area that I worked on when modding, I will start here. Helicopters right now are a joke. Both the flight model and current 'meta' are nonsensical. Currently there are so many ways to spawn in that there's almost no need for transportation besides setting up a FOB at the next point. So instead you have helicopters flying around looking to goomba-stomp the opposing helicopter's rotors for 'epic' video clips. Pilots don't need to fear doing this because of how tanky the helicopter is, and even the projectiles that are capable of damaging it often wind up failing to register damage or wind up hitting the invincible main rotor shield. Ideally for me, Helicopters should be crucial to setting up and maintaining a flank or quickly supporting a push. Squads should be looking to get a lift from the locked (not 5 unlocked) helicopter squad so that they can be re-inserted into a fight. But with the current spawn meta, there's almost no need for a reinsertion. They have stated that this is a sort of "first iteration" of helicopters but I disagree with the mentality of just tossing it onto the backburner to pave way for more shiny features. Helicopters should be based (strictly or loosely) on actual physics, not arbitrary movement curves. There are a lot of mechanics for the helicopters that lean heavily on the arcade side including infinite friction landings, spinouts, massive health pools, and invincible pilots. The first 2 or so minutes of my video showcases how helicopters can be improved with the most basic of additions (). Looking into this SDK, I found this descriptor () which really puts into perspective a lot of the changes that have been taking place. The official Squad Steam store page describes the game as so: "Squad is a tactical FPS that provides authentic combat experiences through teamwork, communication, and gameplay. It seeks to bridge the large gap between arcade shooter and military simulation. " Why is a game that aims to provide "authentic combat experiences" using a flight model based on Battlefield 4 instead of ARMA or RS2? It doesn't need to be insanely realistic simulator quality, but something with mass/momentum and fidelity above "BF4" would be nice. HABCraft/Spawnspam: A key component to victory in the current build is having as many ways to get back into the fight as possible. Rallys, multiple forward HABs, backup HABs, etc. While it's smart to maintain a constant pressure on the objective, the amount of easily accessible spawns fuels the 'giveup urge'. It's easier to just give up and respawn within 10 seconds than wait 60 seconds for a medic. Their mentality being "The quicker I respawn the faster I can start killing more of them so my kills will outweigh the one ticket I spent giving up because THIS TIME I won't die again"; repeat. Points wind up being a sardine pool of bodies spawning in and charging at each other. This diagram illustrates what I'm talking about (). I hope that with dragging coming that they finally decide to slow down the meatgrinder meta of charging into a point from one of the 10 spawns placed around it. Right now defending points is more like a hive than a bunker, people just spawn back in to defend like ants coming out of a hole rather than getting secure positions to ambush or choke attackers. Both attackers and defenders should be conserving every ticket not just because of the ticket-counter but because getting revived should get you back in the fight faster than giving up and respawning. IMO each game mechanic should be balanced around making authenticity fun. Nobody wants to file paperwork in-game, but also having enemies spawn 2 feet in front of you ruins the experience as well. Rally points and HABs are supposed to emulate reinforcements, which is why HABs and rallies shouldn't be allowed to be built on-point. FOBs can still be placed to allow the construction of emplacements but not HABs. You shouldn't be directly seeing enemies as spawnining, but rather as reinforcements. Clearing a town only to have streams of 20+ militia run out of a single house should be replaced by having to watch for backup coming over the hills, because if you lose control of the town you will have to regroup and retry as well, not just respawn directly on top of it with your new rally. Vehicles: Right now there are an abundance of vehicles. Early on in Squad, you had maybe 2 Strykers and 2 BTRs per team. The firepower was limited, but they were important assets for protecting/transporting troops. Now each update keeps adding more and more vehicles to the mains to the point where they had to convert every truck into a logi because nobody bothered using the regular transport version since there are at least 2 IFVs and 3 APCs. There aren't enough infantry to balance it out and often it feels like World of Tanks with vehicles slugging it out rather than supporting an infantry push. The amount of vehicles itself isn't the problem, but the max players needs to be increased to 100 or above. Another major problem is the hitreg. It's a major red flag when you have to be warned that the in-game firing range and multiplayer servers could behave completely differently. There have always been vehicle hitreg problems, but helicopters makes it way more apparent. At times it can be difficult to tell if my shot didn't register, or if the vehicle just absorbed it with an insane HP pool. Shifting Audience: Squad's playercount is at an all time high, but the quality of games is at a low. There is no doubt that many of the newer players have a different mentality towards the game than the veterans. While there's nothing wrong with a casual person picking up Squad, the problem lies in features catered towards those casuals to keep them playing rather than converting them through leadership and tutorials. Some of you may remember this infamous poll where when the community voted yes to keeping dead-dead and then OWI decided to repoll it after some more free weekends to aim for a removal of dead-dead (). I remember the first free weekend Squad Leads were gearing up to teach new players, and there was a positive mentality towards growing the community. Now during a free weekend, I see posts like "welp looks like it's ARMA weekend for me" with less veterans eager to lead the newbies, and I don't blame them. When each match already feels like you are playing with free weekenders, having actual free weekenders added on top of that is too much. These types pool up in no-mic squads so they can lone wolf without worrying about getting kicked, and it's almost impossible for server admins to manage because they aren't allowed to just ban people for no-micing. Casual players picking up Squad isn't the problem, Squad hand-feeding the casual players is. They have no need to adapt to a cautious communicative playstyle when it's so easy to just pop back up and keep on running and gunning. They don't get punished by mechanics for treating the game like anything more than a glorified Battlefield. Modding: This is sort of a bonus one, but I really dislike how modding is handled. There are a lot of things here but I will try to make it digestible. The first issue is the Whitelisting system itself. I have since removed my mod off steam, but at the time it had the most amount of subscribers (80k) out of all of the Squad mods. However, almost 50k of those were from ONE Whitelist free weekend. Nobody played the mod when it was in the custom servers tab. The problem is that it's difficult for modders to retain interest if there is no community support. Now I don't think this is the fault of the actual Squad community at all but rather caused by barriers making mods more of a pain to use than a benefit. A main flaw is how the game/UE4 handles mods by default, which is tying every mod to a layer. This means that if you want to add just one gun to a faction, you need to duplicate all of the existing layers and rack up a massive file size and map list just for one addition, and that addition isn't even cross compatible with other mods (since it's tied down to its own maps/layers). This is why almost every mod is a map, faction, or massive overhaul rather than a single new class, vehicle, or minor set of tweaks. Look at the ARMA workshop, you could have WW2 Germany vs Halo Covenant all while providing air support in a clickable co*ckpit A-10 in Vietnam. Small modders are discouraged when their mod won't ever be used because nobody is going to switch to a layer just for one new gun. This is important to the future of the game because recently the deflection has been "that sounds like a good idea for a hardcore mod" rather than just de-casualizing the base game. But when you can't even modify the CAF in the SDK a true full-fledged conversion ala ARMA's ACE3 is impossible. The ultimate solution for this is removing the concept of layers and data tables being SDK assets and switching them to an XML format. This way anyone can make a layer without needing to download a 60+ GB SDK (it grows over time too). Communities could create custom missions using an editor similar to ARMA's Eden and place down spawn locations, vehicles, and capture points. If all tables were shifted to XML, they could even extend or rewrite the existing factions and add those small gun/vehicle mods I mentioned above. These custom missions/layers wouldn't replace the existing vanilla game, but would instead give people a reason to use the Custom servers tab. Look how long ARMA managed to sustain itself through mission editing and drop-in modding that anyone could do. I would like to hear what everyone else thinks of Squad gameplay now compared to previous versions or what you ideally would like the game to play like (more arcadey, more sim, exactly the same).

Ari Aster is an ABSOLUTE mastermind. This movie surprisingly terrified me more than Hereditary did, and here's why (without spoilers. If you haven't watched this film yet, be warned. Ari Aster is a master of sound manipulation and directorial shots in a mad scientist way of literally putting you INTO the fear of his films. It's not what you're watching that's scary, it's what you're feeling that's scary, and that's something that I've never seen done in a horror film before. If something bad has happened (or is going to happen) then you only have one of two directions to go because you're not going anywhere. 1. You'll understand what's happening while the actor does. Your heart will race because even if you knew what was about to happen, you're now trapped in it, you can't stop it, and you can't stop yourself from witnessing it. 2. You think you know what's going to happen, but once you realize it when the actor does, you're still completely lost for any sort of logical help or saving grace just as they are. The safe haven of sunlight no longer exists, because Aster has so viciously reminded us that horror can come in all forms, at any time, anywhere.

Resentment Builds The Kindness of Strangers Left Behind German Soldiers The Camps Welcome Home I know what I have to do, theman wrote in his diary. But even the prospect of what Georg Ferdinand Duckwitz had to do that day, September 28, 1943, would have left many lesser men petrified with fear. For Duckwitz, a high-level staff member of the German em- bassy in Copenhagen and a member of the Nazi Party, was about to betray his country— and risk execution—to try to save the lives of nearly 8, 000 Danish Jews. He knew that in two days’ time Denmark ’s Jews were to be rounded up and shipped off to internment camps. Eight days earlier, already sure of his course, and aware that he was suspected by the Gestapo of being untrustworthy, he had taken an enormous risk by traveling secretly to Sweden and persuading the still-neutral Swedish government to take in all the Danish Jews who could get out of Denmark in time. But now his mission verged on the suicidal. After a brisk walk to 22 Roemer Street in downtown Copenhagen, he slipped inside to meet with a leading Danish politician. That man, Hans Hedtoft, remembered that Duckwitz looked “white with indignation and shame. ” The reason for that became clear over the next few minutes as Duckwitz outlined precisely what his Nazi brethren had in store for the Danish Jews, and when. What followed directly from that meeting was the miraculous rescue of almost the entire Jewish population of Denmark. And while Duckwitz’s brave warning sparked the operation, it was the Danish people themselves who then rapidly and selflessly carried it out—hiding and caring for their Jewish compatriots, trans- porting them to boats on the coast, and then ensuring the vast majority made it safely to Sweden. When the Germans came to get them on October 1, very few Jews could be found. They had already packed small bags, put on as many layers of clothing as they could, and fled. The decency and compassion of one German and an entire occupied nationliterally saved their lives. As HerbertPundik, who was one of those who got away, wrote 55 years later: “The rescue of the Danish Jews shows that often you can do something. People can accomplish something—even fight against a superior power—if only they dare make a choice. ” Resentment Builds The Jews of Denmark knew what had been happeningin the rest of Europe—how the Germans had rounded up millions of Jews in every country they occupied and shipped them to the East, where some said they were all being put to death. But in Denmark, Jews were still living in their homes in 1943, three years after the Germans invaded. They went about their ordinary lives. Their children attended regular schools like everyone else’s and no one was forced to wear yellow stars. Their businesses ran unchallenged, and they were allowed to keep their jobs. In fact, there had been no restrictions on Danish Jews at all. So far, they had been lucky. And so had all the Danes, ever since April 9, 1940, the day the Germans overwhelmed the small Danish army in just two hours. Hitler felt an affinity for the Danes, considering them fellow Aryans. He permitted the Danes to keep their government and king, and to fly their own flag. Very little changed in their daily lives at first, except for one thing. They were a conquered people ruled by a foreign power. They felt fear, but also a growing resentment and rage. A resistance developed, slowly at first, without violence. As the war continued, strikes, mass demonstrations, and open acts of sabotage proliferated. By 1943, Hitler had become outraged by the Danes’ disrespect for their Aryan brothers. It was time to rule Denmark with an iron hand, and that included getting rid of all the Jews. The orders to round up the Jews came in two telegrams on September 22—one from General Alfred Jodl in Berlin to the German army commander in Copenhagen, and the other from Hitler’s foreign minister, Joachim von Ribbentrop, to Werner Best, Germany’s governor of Denmark. It was Best who told his friend Duckwitz what was about to happen; it is very likely he knew what Duckwitz would do with that information. The roundup had been thoroughly planned. On August 31, armed men had broken into the law offices of the leader of Copenhagen’s Jewish community and stolen files containing the names andaddresses of Denmark’s Jews. Two weeks later, German police openly raided the headquarters of the Jewish Community Center and took away its archives, which also included names and addresses. Not all Jews were listed in either set of stolen files, but most were. By the time two German cargo ships docked at the Langelinie Pier in Copenhagen harbor on Wednesday, September 29, newly arrived Gestapo and other German police were prepared to carry out detailed raids on Jewish homes. The Kindness of Strangers What happened next was a miracle of compassion, decency, and courage not seen on such a scale in any other country in occupied Europe. First, Georg Duckwitz acted. Duckwitz had worked for a German company in Copenhagen before the war and was fluent in Danish. Returning with his wife to Denmark’s capital after Germany invaded, he had become friendly with many Danes. Still, those friendships hardly explain the enor- mity of his decision to try to save Denmark’s Jewish population, and he said very little about it then or after the war. After Duckwitz brought his alarming message to Hans Hedtoft, the Danish politician swiftly spread word to leaders of the Jewish community, and it was instantly passed on to Jews and non-Jews alike. Duckwitz’s act of courage was multiplied thousands of times over by individual Danes who quickly sounded the alarm throughout the country—by phone and word of mouth—and took whatever action was necessary to hide Jews from the Nazis and spirit them out of the country to Sweden. Most Danish Jews knew they had to get away, but where could they go? Who would hide them? “From one hour to the next we had become homeless, ” said Herbert Pundik, who was 16 years old at the time. “We were on the run in our own country. All I owned was a bag with a few kilos of clothes… were frightened, lost, and alone. ” Fortunately Pundik’s father knew someone who would provide shelter, at least for a while. But most Jewish Danes did not have non-Jewish friends or business associates they could turn to for help. One girl and her family, burdened by layers of clothes, bags, and suitcases, headed for the central railroad station in Copenhagen and found thousands of others who seemed just as lost and afraid. “Finally, ” she wrote, “we reach our destination, a small town, at the end of the line, at the open sea, enveloped by endless darkness. Hundreds and hundreds seem to have summoned each other to this place. Unhappy, tortured people. From the small railway station they seep in all directions, cautiously they are being taken into the lowly fishermen’s cabins, stuffed together like sheep in their enclosure, ignorant about their fate. ” But as discomfiting as the upheaval was, their fate was life rather than death, and help awaited at every turn. Mendel Katlev was a 36-year-old factory foreman with a wife and two children. When he heard the news, he rushed home to preparehis family to flee, but he had no idea where they would go. On the tram ride home, he saw the same conductor who had been punching his ticket every day for many years. “How come you’re going home so early today? ” the conductor asked. “Are you sick? ” Katlev told the man the Germans planned to round up all the Jews. “That’s awful, ” the conductor said. “What are you going to do? ” “I don’t know. We’ll have to find a place to hide. ” “Come to my house, ” insisted the conductor. “Get your wife and your children and bring them all to my house. ” Katlev was stunned. “But you don’t know me, ” he said. “You don’t even know my name, and I don’t know yours. ” The conductor held out his hand and introduced himself. Mendel Katlev was no longer alone. Similar selfless acts occurred throughout Denmark in the weeks following Duckwitz’s warning. A prominent Jewish physician remembered that a woman he had never met approached him, introduced herself, and said calmly, “This is my address and here is the key to my house if you should ever need it. ” When a Jewish woman in Copenhagen heard the story after the war, she said, “Oh, yes, the same thing happened to me. At one point I had four keys in my pocket for houses entirely unknown to me. ” Ellen Nielsen, a widow with six children, worked as a fish-monger on the docks. One day two young brothers who worked in the flower market next door asked if she knew any fishermen who would take them to Sweden. They said they needed to escape the Germans who were coming for the Jews. Nielsen had not known they were Jewish; she hardly knew them at all. Nor did she know the Germans were planning to round up the Jews. “But if the Germans are arresting the Jews, ” she asked, “what are you boys doing walking around here? Shouldn’t you be in hiding? ” “Yes, but we don’t know where to hide. ” “You can stay at my house, ” she said without hesitation. She arranged for their successful escape and went on to help many others, none of whom she had known before. Over the next several weeks more than 100 Jews passed through her tiny house and on to Sweden. As word spread about these events, more and more Danes stepped in to help. More than 2, 000 Jews found safe haven in ahospital while the staff arranged for their escape to Sweden. The Scandinavian Bookstore, directly across the street from Copenhagen’s Gestapo headquarters, was used as a gathering place to shelter Jews while plans were made for boats to take them to Sweden. Whenever a book by a certain poet was displayed in the window, that was a signal that it was safe to come inside. As many as 600 Jews hid in the store, sometimes for days, before being transported to freedom. This went on for several weeks; the Gestapo never caught on. Four days elapsed from the time Herbert Pundik and his family left their Copenhagen flat until they reached Sweden. Two dozen people had helped them directly, or at leastknew about their flight—and did not turn them in to German authorities. “The last I remember of Denmark on that October night was the faint sound of the boat cutting through the water as the fisherman poled it away from the shore toward the open sea, ” he recalled. “Looking back, I saw two people kneeling on the sand. One was our host, a friend of my father’s, the other was the wife of the fisherman who was going to smuggle us through the German lines from occupied Denmark to neutral Sweden. Their hands were lifted toward heaven. “They remained within my sight until the Danish coastline was lost from view. I counted the minutes. From the time we left Denmark, where Gestapo patrols tried to round up the seven thousand Jews, to themoment the fisherman called us on deck and told us that we were safe, exactly 37 minutes had passed. ” Left Behind Jews who had not been warned, who had not believed the warning, or who were too old and sick to leave were captured. A few others had found the warning credible but viewed their capture as inevitable. They assumed there was no escaping the German occupiers. The prisoners were too few to fill even one of the two ships the Germans had waiting in the harbor. But those unfortunates—including mainly families with children, and elderly men and women—had been dragged from their homes and shoved into police vans. At the Jewish Home for the Aged, next door to a synagogue, 150 German police stormed the building and seized everyone there. One frail old woman, who had been bedridden for 11 years, was tied roughly to a stretcher and carried next door into the synagogue where all the rest were assembled. The Gestapo brutally interrogated all of the elderly, and hit and kicked them when they said they did not know anything about the Danish underground and its operations. The Germans then took everything of value from the synagogue and relieved themselves inside the sanctuary, to openly demonstrate their contempt. German Soldiers Yet part of the unprecedented success of the rescue must be attributed to theGermans themselves. While the special police and some soldiers treated their prisoners brutally, many German soldiers simply turned a blind eye to the exodus. There were no elite frontline German army units in Denmark. The soldiers there were older men, soldiers recovering from severe wounds, and young recruits with little training. They were reluctant to rile the local population; being stationed in beautiful, peaceful Denmark—which the Germans referred to as “the Whipped Cream Front” because food was plentiful and the duty was easy—was far preferable to serving on the Eastern Front fighting the Russians. One Jewish man remembered running into a German army officer in the dark. He panicked. “Take it easy, ” the German said, “I won’t harm you, ” and he walked away. German soldierssat on some of the same trains that were taking hundreds of Jews fleeing from Copenhagen to the coast, and each group pretended the other was not there. By German standards—judged by the string of successes in rounding up Jews in every other country—the attempt in Denmark was a failure. Of the 7, 800 Jews in Denmark at the time, 7, 220 escaped to Sweden, along with 686 non-Jewish spouses. Only 464 Jews were taken prisoner and transported to Theresienstadt in Czechoslovakia. Thirty people died attempting to escape; some drowned, others committed suicide rather than risk capture. Up to 100 hid out in the countryside until the war ended. Estimates of the number of non-Jewish Danes whohelped in the massive escape to the coast range as high as 10, 000, but the exact number is unknown. Still, there were no recriminations or reprisals for the escape of Danish Jews against anyone, German or Danish, because the German governor of Denmark, Werner Best, could truthfully report to Hitler and Himmler that he had carried out his orders and that Denmark was Judenrein —cleansed of Jews. The Camps But what of the nearly 500 Jews shipped offto Theresienstadt? The Danes—this time the Danish government—had another miracle in the works. From the moment of the Danish Jews’ transport to the camp, the government and the king maintained a persistent flow of inquiries to German headquarters to lobby for their humane treatment. Meanwhile, Danish officials visited the homes of people who had been arrested to select clothing they might need in the camps. These items were sent, along with a steady stream of packages containing vitamins and food, to the Danish prisoners. The Danes, aware of how the German bureaucracy functioned, forwarded their packages with a receipt that had to be signed and returned to the sender. The Germans dutifully and efficiently followed the rules, signing for the packages and delivering them immediately. All records were maintained in proper German order. The aid and pressure worked. While thousands of prisoners at Theresienstadt from other countries were routinely sent on to death camps at Auschwitz and else- where, the Danish Jews—properly clothed and with just enough food and other supplies to survive—were spared. The relatively few who perished were ill or old. A month before the end of the war, the Danish government, working closely with Swedish diplomats, arranged for a convoy of 36 white buses with large red crosses painted on the tops and sides to drive the 600 miles from Denmark to Theresienstadt. There they collected the Danish prisoners and drove them through war-torn Germany to Sweden. (The Germans only agreed to release the prisoners if they were taken to a neutral country. ) No other nation was able to spring its citizens from the camps before the war ended. Welcome Home It was when the Jews returned to Denmark from Sweden and elsewhere in the summer of 1945 that the last of the Danish miracles transpired. First they were greeted by cheering crowds, garlands of flowers, and signs that proclaimed, “Welcome to Denmark. ” As Rabbi Marcus Melchior wrote, “It is Denmark’s undying honor, the truly great deed, that the repatriates were met with a hearty‘welcome home’; that there was a sincere expression of joy at our good fortune; that many insisted that only now that the Danish Jews were back home was Denmark whole again. ” But equally astonishing, most of the Jews returned to find their homes, jobs, and businesses intact, ready for them to resume the lives that had been interrupted. Employees had run companies and shops on their own, drawing only their regular salaries and depositing the profits to the owners’ accounts. Homes had been kept in immaculate condition; upon theirreturn, many found that their apartments and houses had been cleaned and freshly painted, with several days’ worth of food stocked in the refrigerators. “All our stuff was completely where we left it, nothing was stolen, ” one girl recalled. “The car my father had bought before the war was still standing there. ” Another young woman wrote how amazed she was to find her home in perfect condition. “I remember my surprise at opening my closets in my room and seeing all the things I owned. My father had at the last moment transferred his considerable wine cellar to a friend’s house. The friend was very upset that one bottle of brandy was missing and kept apologizing for this to my father. ” Virtually all of the Jews who escaped returned home immediately after the war: Herbert Pundik arrived from Sweden on May 6, the day after the Germans in Denmark surrendered, and went on to become a prominent journalist. Meanwhile, the man squarely at the center of the rescue also happily returned to Denmark some years after the war ended. Georg Duckwitz had stayed on at the German embassy in Copenhagen until 1945, his heroic treachery undetected by his Nazi masters. After the war he led a distinguished but quiet life as a career diplomat. In 1955 he became the German ambassador to Denmark, and in 1971, two years before his death, Duckwitz was honored by Israel as one of the Righteous Among the Nations. In the years since the miraculous rescue, many Danes have been asked why they made such heroic efforts to save the Jews. Why risk their freedom, even their lives and those of their families, to help people who, in many cases, they did not even know? The question is usually received with a look of disbelief that anyone would even ask. “We helped the Jews because they needed us, ” a Copenhagen housewife said 20 years after the war. “How could anybody turn their back and not do everything possible to prevent the slaugh- ter of innocent people? Perhaps the citizens of other countries had forsaken their Jewish brethren. But it did not happen in Denmark. By saving Jews, we saved ourselves. We kept our integrity and honor. We struck a blow for human dignity at a time when it was sorely lacking in the world. ” Source:.
Yeah right, just wait till any one of those characters turns out to be a Trump supporter. Then you'll see how fast that kindness turns into vileness. Hollywood/liberal kindess is the biggest farce ever, like this movie.

Saw this at the Cleveland film festival. It was so good! Such a Rollercoaster. FULL OF TRASH. Download Free The Kindness of Strangers - Kleine Wunder unter fréménil. Helen Hunt is a great actress. It's been a long time since I had seen her in films. People shouldn't be picking on her looks. She's not young like she used to be. She's still beautiful. We all age at some point. This film looks interesting. Helen you're the bomb. 👍. Download Free The Kindness of Strangers - Kleine Wunder unter freudenberg. It's sad because in the play she did go back in there again. The last scene is of Stella crying in Stanley's arms after Blanche has been taken away. He comforts her while undoing her blouse, which shows how he got what he wanted in the end- back to their sexual relationship without Blanche in the way- and Stella just has to believe that Blanche was lying about the rape and stay with Stanley.

That guy looks like Tito Ortiz. The salt levels in the comment section though 👀💀. Hmm… title, great preview and a stellar cast. It looks like The Kindness of Strangers may actually be worth watching. It describes what volunteers can do to ameliorate the conditions of young people living in poverty. It chronicles the rise of the mentoring movement and examines its wider implications for education and social policy. Based on interviews with over 300 mentors, young people, scholars, and youth workers, The Kindness of Strangers takes a hard look at mentoring and asks some critical questions: How much can mentoring really accomplish? What does it take to be a successful mentor? What makes the difference between an effective program and one fraught with difficulties? Marc Freedman brings experience, research, and realism to these questions in an effort to present the truth about the mentoring movement sweeping America today. This revised edition contains a new introduction that highlights research that has been conducted since the original publication of the book in 1993. Marc Freedman is President of Civic Ventures, a research and development organization based in Berkeley, California. He has studied education and social policy for more than a decade and prior to starting Civic Ventures he was director of special projects for Public/Private Ventures, an organization focused on helping young people in poverty. The POWER in this cast omg. Haven't seen it, but why do I feel like Bruce is one of the bad guys? I'm probably wrong but ehh. Jane is worried about an inspection of the inn from a hard nosed inpector. When he is taken ill, they stop worrying until the new inspector shows up. I have always enjoyed reading about the Howard sisters in Tales From Grace Chapel Inn. In book 23 of this series The Kindness of Strangers each sister gets caught up in different challenges that consume their time. Jane is busy preparing for the inspector from the health department to make his regular visit to the Bed and Breakfast. Rumors have been flying about the new inspector and how strict he is. Jane agonizes over his appointment causing her to clean every nook and cranny of the inn. Alice.. unfortunately i feel like another author does not know the personalities of the characters and it's hard to get into the story These are great easy-to-read, clean fiction. Perfect for bedtime reading. A sweet-natured, simple book If I want to catch up on my reading goal all I have to do is order some Tales of Grace Chapel Inn books. I am not sure what it is about these books but I read these books quickly. I can't wait to find out what is going to happen in each book. I LOVE the characters in this little town of Acorn Hill, Pennsylvania, right in the middle of rural Amish country. In this book we have 3 plot lines going at the same time... 1. It is time for the Inn to be inspected... especially the kitchen and dining room.. As the title implies, this is a book about kindness. The reader is led to conclude that kindness is circular. Those who give are as blessed as those who receive. The three Howard sisters reflect on what the Bible says about kindness and recall how their father lived his life, always demonstrating kindness. He taught as much by example as he did in his sermons. While working on the dialysis unit, Alice meets Myra, a young mom who needs a kidney transplant. Many people are surprised when Rosalind,.. Another great book in this series about three sisters who turn their family home into a bed & breakfast. There are such great characters in this series -- from the sisters to their Aunt Ethyl to the town residents -- that the books are always a nice read. Each book also introduces the reader to new characters, who are usually guests at the Inn. In this one, it isn't a real guest but an inspector who finds somethings he thinks are inappropriate with running a successful bed & breakfast... Started reading 3/5/2012. This is a book from the searies from Grace Chapel Inn. I love reading any book from this series, I want to live in this town and I love all the people that live there. The kindness of strangers is the story of all the people that live in this fictitious town. An ornery inspector comes to inspect the Inn and many things seem to keep him in the town for several days and he learns about the kindness of strangers. so far, I really enjoy all of the tales from grace chapel inn series, and this is no exception. It is very relaxing read!

This is one of the reason why your tuition increases every year... True Story 'll remove real male character who actually existed and did all those things (Henry Coxwell) and replace him with dashing, brave, emancipated female character that is completely made up and never walked the earth because that's what history is all about.
