They would compete against each other. Each strain would treat the other like a contamination. Two strains enter one strain leaves. and that strain would have consumed alot of nutes to win.

i would say maybe if they are very closely related they might just treat each other just like another spore sicne most people are doing multi spore injections anyways. you already have many spores in one substrate. so id say maybe u could just get two strains living in harmony. but unless you wanna experiment for kicks n giggles theres really no point u might as well do a jar or each. -------------------- im sorry about your mother. you ever see what happens when you put two 3-5 year olds in a car that are really hyped on sugar and enjoy torturing the sh*t out of each other? It's kinda like that, except that one of the kids ends up dead before you arrive. Instead of putting two strains in one jar, split em up and grow em both. -------------------- To get really high is to forget yourself. And to forget yourself is to see everything else. i know its not what your asking but here is some info http://www.shroomery.org/index.php/the/default/par/23401 and ive heard of people taking 2 cakes and make a casing and get 2 strains growing, but never done it myself. -------------------- In the belly of the Leviathan, one can either despair and perish, or be cheerful and persevere.-Dean Koontz

FAQs
Spore culture :
The spores get deposited as spore print. The spores are stored under sterile condition in a refrigerator for future use. These spores can be used for direct inoculation of wheat extract agar medium or Lambert's agar medium.
What do mushroom spores turn into? ›
Key Takeaways. Mushroom spores are not seeds but are vital for fungi reproduction, spreading their genetic material to create new mushrooms. Spores travel through the air, hitch rides on animals, or get moved by water and can germinate into mycelium under the right conditions.
Why aren't my mushroom spores growing? ›
If the substrate is too dry, the mushroom mycelium may grow very slowly, or not at all, and won't fully colonize the substrate. A substrate that's too wet encourages the growth of mold and bacteria that prevent the mycelium from colonizing the substrate.
How many spores does a mushroom release? ›
Key Takeaways. A single mushroom can release over 1 billion spores every day. Mature mushrooms pack about 16 billion spores, ready to spread and grow new fungi. Spore production depends on factors like the type of mushroom, age, size, environmental conditions, health, nutrition, seasonality, and genetics.
How do you collect mushroom spores for cultivation? ›
Place the mushroom with the gills face down onto the paper and pop a glass over the top. Leave this for 24 hours. When you return, remove the glass and gently lift the mushroom. The spores will have fallen from the cap and you should see a print on the paper, which replicates the gill pattern from the mushroom.
What is the difference between mushroom culture and spores? ›
spores revolves around speed and diversity. Liquid culture accelerates mycelium growth, boasts higher success rates, and lowers contamination risks—ideal for beginners and seasoned growers. Spores, however, embrace genetic diversity, paving the way for a more organic cultivation process.
Is it safe to breathe in mushroom spores? ›
Mushroom spores can cause lung problems like hypersensitivity pneumonitis and asthma attacks if inhaled. Symptoms of inhaling spores include coughing, shortness of breath, and fever. Severe cases may need medical treatment with steroids or hospital care.
What is the difference between mycelium and spores? ›
Mycelium is the feeding stage of the mushroom, and it can grow for years, even decades, under the right conditions. In short, mushroom spores are the reproductive cells of the mushroom, while mycelium is the vegetative, nutrient-absorbing stage of the mushroom's life cycle.
What do fungal spores look like? ›
Fungal spores themselves are all microscopic, some as small as two micrometres in size. Most fungi require warmth and humidity to grow, reproduce and release their spores into the environment. Many fungi produce only small amounts of spores which rarely get airborne in quantity.
Where is the best place to plant mushroom spores? ›
Mushrooms are best grown under-cover, where temperature and moisture can be controlled. A shed, garage, garden cold frame or cellar will work well – anywhere out of the sun where it's possible to give mushrooms their optimum growing temperature of around 15°C (the temperature shouldn't go below 10°C or above 20°C).
Warmer temperatures tend to speed up growth while cooler temperatures slow it down. It usually takes three to four weeks for mushrooms to grow.
How long does it take for spores to become mycelium? ›
Colonization occurs after inoculation. This is when the mycelium will start to take over the grain that was inoculated with spores. This period usually lasts between 3 to 6 weeks depending on strain and environmental conditions. Ideal conditions for this phase are in a dark place and temperature between 72 F – 80 F.
How long does it take for mushroom spores to colonize? ›
Colonization from a spore syringe will take anywhere from 2-6 weeks depending on how much grain is in your container, how much spore solution you inoculate with, and how optimized you are able to make the environmental conditions. Colonization from a Liquid Culture syringe will take anywhere from 2-4 weeks.
How long do mushroom spores survive? ›
Spores in the atmosphere may survive for days or weeks or possibly longer (31–34). Careful data tracking the lifetimes of individual spores in the air are lacking; spores are not easy to observe or manipulate in nature.
What's the difference between mushroom spores and liquid culture? ›
Unlike a spore syringe that contains dormant spores, a liquid culture contains living, active mycelium. The liquid culture solution is a nutrient-rich liquid that provides the mycelium with the sustenance it needs for faster colonization.
What is the spore stage of a mushroom? ›
Stage 1: Spore Germination and Initial Cultivation
This initial phase is known as starting the culture. Under suitable conditions—correct temperature and humidity—the spores will germinate and produce thread-like cells called hyphae.
Is a spore a fungus or mycelium? ›
A mycelium is a network of fungal threads or hyphae. Mycelia often grow underground but can also thrive in other places such as rotting tree trunks. A single spore can develop into a mycelium. The fruiting bodies of fungi, such as mushrooms, can sprout from a mycelium.
What is the purpose of mushroom spores? ›
The spore of a mushroom contains all of the necessary materials to form a new fungus. Once the spore has been released and is settled on the forest floor, it will begin sending out hyphae to help establish the fungus and gather food.
