Childe (Tartaglia) Main DPS Build
Tartaglia's primary build is that of a Main DPS where he is on-fielddealing powerful Hydro DMG and facilitating variousElemental Reactions.

All of Tartaglia's 5-star options listed are incredibly competitive andcan be better than other weapons with the right setup and situation. Polar Star as his signature weapon tends to be his BiS and will beif you are able to get 2-3 stacks at the start of your rotation. Withoutthese stacks, weapons such as Aqua Simulacra tend to be morepowerful.
Nymph's Dream is Tartaglia's best artifact set having amazingsynergy with Polar Star due to both having similar stack mechanics. Heart of Depth is his second best option but Tartaglia can not fullyutilise its effects.
With regards to substats, Tartaglia focuses on CRIT Rate, CRIT DMGand ATK % with a Hydro DMG goblet to increase his ElementalDamage. CRIT Rate can actually be more important to Tartaglia due to itapplying Riptide with his 4th Ascension Passive Sword of Torrents.

Energy Recharge Requirements
Tartaglia's Energy Recharge requirements vary based onif you are using your Elemental Burst in your Ranged Stance or Melee Stanceas well as if any party members use a Favonius weapon. For example, it iscommon for Kaedehara Kazuha to use a Favonius Sword.
Another aspect to consider which is not included inside the table isthe Energy gained from Foul Legacy: Understream (C1) whichgenerates 4 Energy per enemy defeated with Riptide.
It can be hard to know exactly how many enemies would be defeated in asingle rotation with different fights having differing amounts of enemies. That being said, it is roughly 15% less for every enemy who would be defeatedthat rotation. I would just be careful when considering it as not allfights will have easy enemies to pick off for Energy.
Setup | C0 |
---|---|
Melee Stance Burst | 210 - 230% |
Bow Stance Burst | 140 - 160% |
Melee Stance Burst + 1 Fav | 190 - 210% |
Bow Stance Burst + 1 Fav | 130 - 140% |

Combos and How to Play Childe (Tartaglia)
Tartaglia's gameplay revolves around his 2 different stances. MeleeStance and ranged stance. These are activated when using hisElemental Skill Foul Legacy: Raging Tide. A veryimportant thing to consider is that "The longer Tartaglia stays in his MeleeStance, the longer the CD." You generally only want to stay in hisMelee Stance for around 10 seconds so that the cooldown does notget too long.
Tartaglia's Elemental Burst Havoc: Obliterationalso changes depending on what stance he is in. His rangedstance doing Ranged Stance: Flash of Havoc andin Melee stance, Melee Stance: Light of Obliteration.
The Ranged Burst applies Riptide andgives 20 Energy back, the Melee Burst deals more DMG andutilises Riptide to deal further damage afterwards. Riptide isexplained below.
3.1.
Riptide Explained
Tartaglia's gameplay primarily revolves around his Riptide mechanic which marks opponents and can then dovarious effects. You can mark opponents with Riptide in the following ways:
- Charged Attacks while in his Bow stance.
- Ranged Stance: Flash of Havoc, his Elemental Burst while in Bow stance.
- CRIT Hits in Melee stance due to Sword of Torrents (A4).
Once an enemy is marked, you can then utilise Riptide to deal damagein these ways:
- Riptide Flash - A fully-charged Aimed Shot that hits an opponent affectedby Riptide deals consecutive bouts of AoE DMG. Can occur once every 0.7s.
- Riptide Burst - Defeating an opponent affected by Riptide creates a Hydroburst that spreads Riptide to nearby opponents hit.
- Riptide Slash - Hitting an opponent marked by Riptide with a melee attackperforms Riptide Slash that deals AoE Hydro DMG.
- Riptide Blast - When his Elemental Burst hits an opponent affected byRiptide, it clears their Riptide status and triggers a Hydro Explosion thatdeals AoE Hydro DMG. This is considered Elemental Burst DMG.
Hitting enemies with Riptide triggers independent versions of Riptide Slash. This makes it important to try and group enemies ideally withAnemo characters.
3.2.
Prestacking Buffs
Tartaglia also has the ability to prestack the effects of his bestweapon Polar Star and his best artifact set Nymph's Dream. This equipment gains DMG stacks when Normal, Charged, Skill and Burststake place and hit opponents.
To "prestack" means to pre-emptively gain these stacks before dealing yourmost powerful hits from your Elemental Skill and Burst. One rotationfor this is Skill > Normal Attack > Charged Attack.
4.
Childe (Tartaglia) Best Team Comps
Listed below are some team comps which can be used with Tartaglia such ashis most popular International team composition andvariants.
4.1.
Childe International
Main DPS | Sub DPS | Sub DPS | Support |
---|---|---|---|
Tartaglia | Xiangling |
| Bennett |
This is by far Tartaglia's most popular team composition, generallywith Kaedehara Kazuha instead of Sucrose.Xiangling provides consistent Pyroapplication as well as Pyro Resonancewhen paired alongside Bennett who provides healingand powerful ATK buffs. Your Anemo character helps to groupenemies for Riptide as well as RES Shred when using Viridescent Venerer

Childe Hyperbloom
Main DPS | Dendro | Electro | Hydro |
---|---|---|---|
Tartaglia |

|
|
Tartaglia can also be played in Hyperbloom teams, his on-field Hydro application allows you to not needcharacters such as Xingqiu or Yelan.Instead, having an off-field Dendro and Electrocharacter for Elemental Reactions. Tartaglia will also want a secondHydro character for additional Hydro appliationso that during the downtime on his Melee Stance, there are stillreactions ongoing.
Kuki Shinobu is the preferred Electro character forHyperbloom with her ability to both heal andeffectively apply Electro although Baizhu orYaoyao make great Dendro options instead. Depending on howoften your Dendro character can apply Dendro for reactions, you may want 2Dendro characters.
4.3.
Childe Taser
Main DPS | Sub DPS | Support | Support |
---|---|---|---|
Tartaglia | Fischl | Beidou | Bennett |
Electro-Charged, also known as Taser focuses onthe Elemental DMG dealt mainly by Tartaglia and Beidou. WithBennett providing increased ATK buffs and healing as neededand Fischl acting as a battery and additional off-fieldElectro DMG.
4.4.
Childe Ascension Passive Team
Main DPS | Support | Support | Support |
---|---|---|---|
Neuvillette | Tartaglia | Kaedehara Kazuha | Zhongli |
I wanted to also list this team more so to explain a "Team Composition"which has started to occur more since the release of Neuvillettewhich players may see in Neuvillette showcases or duringSpiral Abyss data/rankings. In this team, Tartaglia has nofield time in this team and provides no benefit outside of his Master of Weaponry Passive which helps toincrease the Normal Attack level for Neuvillette therefore dealing more damage.

Childe's (Tartaglia) Ascension Passives and Materials

4th Ascension | Sword of Torrents | When in Melee Stance, any CRIT hits for Normal and Charged Attackswill apply Riptide. |
Tartaglia requires a range of materials to ascend to the 6th ascension.Starting from the second ascension they gain Hydro DMG as he levels, giving a total of 28.8% Bonus Hydro DMG at the final ascension. The total cost to upgrade all ascensions is:
Source | Quantity |
---|---|
Mora | 420,000 Mora |
Boss Material | 46x Cleansing Heart |
Ascension Material |
|
Local Specialty | 168x Starconch |

5.2.
Childe's (Tartaglia) Talents
Listed below is each talent and a simplified explanation of how they work.
Type | Talent Name | Brief Explanation |
---|---|---|
Normal | Normal Attack: Cutting Torrent | Deals 6 hits with either stance, Charged Attacks from the bow apply the Riptide status but not during melee stance. Whilethe Normal Attack button is used for Melee Stance, most scalingis from the Elemental Skill instead. Riptide Burst (riptide on kill)however scales on Normal Attack regardless of which stanceeliminated the enemy. The mechanics of riptide are explained earlier in the guide. |
Elemental Skill | Foul Legacy: Raging Tide | Initially changes Tartaglia to Melee Stance, converting Normaland Charged Attacks into Hydro DMG while also allowingthe use of Riptide Slash. This alsoincreases his Interruption RES and removes Plunging Attacks. The cooldown of the Elemental Skill does not start untilMelee Stance ends. The duration of the cooldown depends on how longTartaglia has been inside of Melee Stance. |
Elemental Burst | Havoc: Obliteration | Performs either of the 2 Elemental Bursts depending on Tartaglia'sstance:
|
To upgrade a single talent to level 10, it costs:
Source | Quantity |
---|---|
Mora | 1,625,500 Mora |
Special Material | 1x Crown of Insight |
Boss Material | 6x Shard of a Foul Legacy |
Domain Material |
|
Enhancement Material |
|
5.3.
Childe's (Tartaglia) Constellations
Tartaglia has a lot of early constellations which provide quality of lifeenhancements to his gameplay more so than direct damage increases until C3onwards. This means that for more damage, you need to invest heavily intohis constellations. Foul Legacy: Tide Withholder (C1)is a nice constellation if you do want something less expensive to aim forby easing the penalty which comes with his Melee Stance.
# | Name | Explanation |
---|---|---|
C1 | Foul Legacy: Tide Withholder | Decreases the CD of Foul Legacy: Raging Tide by 20% |
C2 | Foul Legacy: Understream | When opponents affected by Riptide are defeated,Tartaglia regenerates 4 Elemental Energy. |
C3 | Abyssal Mayhem: Vortex of Turmoil |
|
C4 | Abyssal Mayhem: Hydrospout | If in Melee Stance, triggers an additional Riptide Slash. This is independent of any Riptide triggered by Tartaglia. |
C5 | Havoc: Formless Blade |
|
C6 | Havoc: Annihilation | When using Havoc: Obliteration in Melee Stance, reset the cooldown of Foul Legacy: Raging Tide. |
