On Super Bowl Sunday, all attention is on the big game … and the snack table.

Snacking is a Super Bowl Sunday essential.

Millions will tune in to watch the San Francisco 49ers take on the 2023 Super Bowl champs, the Kansas City Chiefs.

5 SUPER BOWL ESSENTIALS ALL TAYLOR SWIFT FANS NEED FOR GAME DAY

Many find the events of the day pair well with a snack – and beer – in hand.

This year, you can take your Super Bowl snacking to the next level with fried shrimp, Cajun boudin balls, homemade pretzels, chicken tenders, Buffalo chicken dip and mini taco bowl bites.

Keep reading for six snack ideas to serve while watching the Super Bowl this year.

  1. Fried shrimp
  2. Cajun boudin balls
  3. Sourdough soft pretzels with homemade beer cheese
  4. Potato chip crusted chicken tenders
  5. Buffalo chicken pinwheels
  6. Mini taco bowl bites

1. Fried shrimp

Fried food is a fan favorite on game day. And while you may already be frying chicken bits, you probably haven't thought of frying shrimp, too.

However, shrimp co*cktail might be a little too snooty of a snack for the Super Bowl, so definitely fry it instead.

This simple recipe is great for finger food. Include sauces for dipping on the side, like honey mustard, BBQ sauce and even co*cktail sauce.

Pat the shrimp dry and set it aside. Once dried, toss in flour in a bowl. In a separate small bowl, whisk 2–3 eggs depending on how many shrimp you need to cover and coat the floured shrimp in egg wash. From the egg, cover the shrimp in breadcrumbs.

If you like extra thick breading on shrimp, dip them again into the egg and the breadcrumbs for a double layer.

SUPER BOWL LVIII: WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THE GAME

On the stove, heat canola oil in a pot to 350 degrees. Use a thermometer to check the temperature, as you don't want to under- or overheat the oil. Once the temperature has reached 350 degrees, toss one shrimp into the pot of oil and fry until lightly golden.

Once you understand how long it takes to fry the shrimp, add 5–8 shrimp at a time and fry until golden.

Remove and set on a paper towel to soak up the oil.

Ingredients:

  • Peeled, deveined shrimp
  • Bread crumbs
  • Flour
  • Egg
  • Peanut or canola oil

2. Cajun boudin balls

This simple Cajun boudin balls recipe comes from South Louisiana and contains minimal ingredients for a quick snack to whip up before the big game.

"These Cajun boudin balls are a delicious southern tailgating snack," said Melanie Cagle of The Cagle Diaries, who came up with this must-try recipe.

"Deep-fried, breaded balls of boudin sausage that are served with your favorite dip — traditionally a mustard cream sauce or a rémoulade."

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds boudin sausage links
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon Creole seasoning
  • 2 cups breadcrumbs, plain
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • Oil for frying

3. Sourdough soft pretzels with homemade beer cheese

Pretzels are a staple game day snack, and they are even more appealing when they are homemade and paired with a delicious dip like the beer cheese used in this recipe.

"These sourdough soft pretzels are made with sourdough starter discard and are surprisingly easy to make," says Kyleigh Sage of Barley & Sage, who shared this recipe.

10 TAILGATING ITEMS FOR YOUR SUPER BOWL SUNDAY

"They're served with a creamy homemade beer cheese dip for a fun game day snack. You can even make the dough the night before and keep it in the fridge for a quick assembly the day of the game."

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sourdough starter discard
  • 3 cups bread flour
  • ¾cup whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon non-diastatic malt powder (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons baking soda, for boiling
  • Pretzel salt, for topping

4. Potato chip crusted chicken tenders

No Super Bowl Sunday is complete without chicken tenders, especially when they are combined with potato chips (or any other kind of chips you prefer) for a fun twist.

"These potato chip-crusted chicken tenders are super crispy on the outside, while still deliciously moist on the inside thanks to dry brining the tenders before frying," says Sage. "Serve with homemade honey mustard for a bite-sized game day snack."

Ingredients:

  • 2 large chicken breasts
  • 2 tablespoons kosher salt
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • ¼ cup vodka (optional)
  • 1 large bag of Lay's Classic Potato Chips (or whatever chips you prefer)
  • 2-4 cups canola oil, for frying

5. Buffalo chicken pinwheels

The more chicken the better come game day. This tasty Super Bowl snack idea comes from Cara Lanz of MidwesternHomeLife.com. Serve these pinwheels on Super Bowl Sunday. They bring together all your favorite flavors in Buffalo chicken wings, without the mess.

"Buffalo Chicken Pinwheels have all the flavors of buffalo chicken wings — spicy sauce, chicken, celery and blue cheese — rolled up into a tortilla. So no messy fingers," says Lanz.

  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 cups shredded chicken
  • ⅓ cup hot sauce

6. Mini taco bowl bites

Tacos are a great snack, and these bowls made with dipper tortilla chips are bite size, making them super fun to eat and give a different presentation to a popular party food.

"I love making this snack because it's super easy and fun to serve at a Super Bowl party or really any party," Lisa Grant, owner of JerseyGirlCooks.com says of the dish.

"Toppings and fillings can be adjusted to different diets, and this can also be made with ground turkey or a plant-based meat."

The taco filling can be made in advance, says Grant, and you can then assemble the tacos right before serving, freeing up your time on Super Bowl Sunday to enjoy the game and spend less time in the kitchen.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 16 ounces lean ground beef, or another ground meat or plant-based meat filling of choice
  • 1 cup taco sauce
  • 1 bag dipper tortilla chips (you will only use about ½ the bag)
  • Toppings such as shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, chopped avocado, salsa, cilantro, etc.
